I'm back! We extended our trip and were gone until oct 31. The ferrets are well while I was gone and they are currently eating the thick soup and eating it fine.
Zin-2.5 lbs Lola-1.8 pounds
Both have high energy, poop looks good, and are eating about 5-6 oz of super thick soup a day between the two of them.
I pulled out some chicken breast to thaw so I try to feed them slivers tomorrow morning. Do you think I should just do slivers and no soup and see if they will eat it?

Sure! Why not. Worst case you can add a little soup in if they don't.

So-once again Zin has proved to be difficult. He's been eating the super thick (as thick as ground beef) soup no problems, but when I put a plate full of slivers in front of him he wouldn't even touch it. Lola went right to it and ate the plain chicken no problems. But he wouldn't, even when I tried hand feeding it to him. I mixed a little soup with the chicken and he wouldn't to eat it till I hand fed him the soup covered pieces. Today, I put a plate if soup and slivers in their cage and didn't hand feed him immediately because Andrew brought home take out right then and I wanted to eat while it was hot. He started throwing a tantrum in his cage, (while Lola peacefully ate-I watched it all from the table) and he was manically digging at his bedding and pushing his beds around. He ended up laying down, then after about 15 minutes he went to the plate and started eating on his own. (he didn't know I was watching). When I finished eating I went to the cage and he stopped eating and wanted me to hand feed him again...ugh. Anyway so that's the progress right now. 2 days of slivers and a little soup, Lola eating great, Zin being a picky brat.

Hahahahahaha WOW What a turd!! So he will eat them on his own if he thinks you aren't watching? About how much of the chunks do you think he actually ate?

He is ridiculous...he probably ate about half an ounce before I went back to the cage and he stopped. I can't count on him to do that always though seeing as how last time he was starving himself to death. Oh Zin. I'll try to increase the ratio of meat to soup today and see how it goes.

LOL Any better luck today? Definitely go heavy on the hand feeding if you can. We know he CAN eat the chunks he just needs to be reminded that he WILL eat them. And I agree don't trust him to eat on his own yet, we don't want him starving himself the brat.

Hello!
So Zin is doing great. I had to hand feed a couple meals but the past few meals he's not making me. I sit there at the cage and watch and he's eating the slivers in a little soup all on his own. If he gets a bigger piece of muscle he carries it to a different area and chews it then goes back for more. I'm giving them a ratio that's about 3/4 slivers and 1/4 soup.

Woot good boy!! Time to increase the sliver size. Start by making them a little bit longer, then a little wider. What proteins are they getting right now?

They are getting chicken breast (that's the slivers...maybe it's actually bigger than slivers..it's about the size of half a fingernail). And then the soup has chicken and turkey in it for the muscle meats (and the heart and liver of course). I'm making sure to add egg shell to the chicken breast too so they don't get diarrhea. I'll use bigger pieces for their dinner tonight.

Hey!
Just weighed the fuzzies. Zin is 2.72 lbs and Lola is 1.93 lbs. Zin is gaining weight on the slivers and soup! Yay. So glad he's not starving himself. I haven't had to hand feed him at all the past few days. He goes right to the plate and digs in. And obviously he's eating since his weight went up. Poops look good, energy is high.
I bought some pork and have given them pork slivers with their little bit of soup the past 3 or 4 days and they have eaten it just fine.
I'm going to Ketchikan in the morning for the weekend. (It's the state Elks convention and I'm an officer.) I have the same ferret sitter watching them, and I just prenade and portioned 4 days worth of chicken slivers and chunks mixed with new soup I made. I didn't put much muscle meat into the soup since I'm putting the chunks in. (It comes out to the same measurements in the end, just not all blended.)
I will have access to a proper grocery store there so let me know if I should get something particular for the next stage. I have beef and chicken hearts and beef and chicken livers and beef kidney right now. So I need to get some muscle meat.
Oh! Another thing...I gave my dogs raw chicken wings to eat and somehow the ferrets got one. I discovered it by trying to find out what the awful smell in my bedroom was. They had stashed it in their hidey hole and it looked like they had been chewing on it. Good sign?

Good boy! That's what I like to hear! And yes, if they were chewing on a wing that is definitely a good sign! You're doing the right thing with the soup/chunk balance so that's good. Aaaand when you get back from your weekend trip (have fun!) it's time to up the size of the chunks. Push push push! Let me know how they do with slightly bigger chunks.
