I found with mine it was often a case of "monkey see, monkey do" with raw. If one is interested enough then others were also. At first with wings best to segment and cut between the bones in the middle section, and cut as much as you can along the length of the drumette to expose the marrow.

We got an 8 week baby boy for christmas for my 25 yr old son. He previously had ferrets and we had never heard of the raw diet. We immediately began switching him from kibble starting with pinkies and raw meat. He is now about 11 wks and eats like a horse. We received an oeder fron rodentpro a couple days ago and on average he eats a chick and a quail and some very small mice daily. We really thought he was eating way too much but he will come to us and lead us to his food bowl when he wants to eat. He consumes 100% of the animals with no problems. He has more energy than I have ever seen in a ferret and his coat is noticably different.

Very excited! I get to add more organs to our menu! I found beef sweetbreads in addition to beef kidney! Wooot!
Anything one of mine eats, the other will at least try. And, if neither ferret will eat it to start with, offer it to the cat, and then their need to steal from him takes over and they eat it. (disappointed)

At that age give him however much he will eat! Try to make a point of giving almost all adult animals as babies have much higher calcium needs.

Hello, I'm curious about the weekly plan it says one meal of liver..as I'm trying to go raw for my cats and ferret, I noticed for cats if I understand correctly that liver should be mixed in with something else. My question is can my ferret just have a whole meal of liver? 2oz approx.

Yes definitely. Liver poops are black and tarry but I have often fed just liver to be sure everyone was eating it.

For the meal that only contains heart, how many ounces of heart per ferret approx? I currently have chicken hearts which are rather small.

One meal? I'd average an ounce each. Males will eat more than females etc.

So, I'm think I'm probably getting way ahead of myself here as I don't even own a ferret yet, but I noticed you said that certain measurements concerning their meal plans will vary based upon each individual ferret and it got me wondering- how do you know what exactly needs adjusting? .. I mean, how do you know if they need more or less of bones, organs, and such of that nature? O .o

Average with whole raw(frankenprey) works out to about 70% muscle meat, 20% bone, and 10% total organ meats. Again, this will vary slightly on the individual ferret. Some need more bone, some more organ, etc. This is one of the reasons you will come across so many "poop talks" here Stool is too soft- add more bone. Too black, cut back on liver, etc. it's something you get to recognize as you gain experience

Hi! I have a question. I want to start giving one of my ferrets bones, I have two but Yoshi is ready to eat pieces. They're currently on full raw soup.
I've bought some chicken wings, and I wonder what's the best way to give them? This is what I'm doing today for Yoshi: I used the raw soup recipe, but I cut all the chicken breast into small pieces, and made a thick soup of the liver and hearts, that way is easier to mix the bone meal powder. But I also want to gradually add chicken wings, so I also cut those wings in little pieces for the mix, is that ok? Won't they be dangerous or something? Or should I put, let's say, one entire wing?
Yesterday I tried to upload the form for the mentoring program, but had some problems twice (my fault!), but I will try it again in the afternoon.
