So I have made a quick menu for this week. I wasn't able to find ALL the selection I wanted, but it's still a start:
Mon AM: Chicken Bone in Mon PM: Beef Heart
Tue AM: Chicken Bone in Tue PM: Cornish Hen Bone in
Wed AM: Beef kidney (2 oz)/ Chicken Liver (2oz) Wed PM: Chicken Bone in
Thur AM: Chicken Bone in Thur PM: Chicken Bone in
Fri AM: Pork Muscle meat Fri PM: Chicken Bone in
Sat AM: Beef Heart/ Chicken Gizzard Sat PM: Chicken Bone in
Sun AM: Chicken Muscle meat Sun PM: Chicken Bone in
I bagged up 4-5 oz meals which is a little smaller than last weeks portions because there was a little bit of waste each day. Monday morning he devoured his entire meal, so I have extra baggies of the mix from last week that I will add in an oz or two to Tue morning meal to make sure he has enough. So far, poops Mon afternoon (after the bone in meal) were fine. Nice and formed. HOWEVER! This morning it looks like he had an explosion! It was dark, runny, maybe a little bit mucous-ie and of course it was next to the litter box. This was after the beef heart meal. He has eaten beef heart before, so I don't know that it is an allergy. Is the problem that it was a WHOLE meal of heart? I mixed everything before, should I try doing a half and half with chicken bone in next time? He doesn't have another heart meal until Saturday and its only a half meal. What would you all suggest? Also how does this menu look. I know there is a lot of chicken bone in, but I had a hard time finding anything else at local grocery store. Next week I should be able to make a run to town and go by an Asian market and get lots of new things is the plan.

Formed poops are kibble poops, whole prey, or heavy bone in meal poops
a normal raw diet poop will be soft, pasty, but not watery.
Liver poops are the worst.
To keep the poop from being too loose I have been making their liver and heart meals a puree with egg shell powder and feeding it split between 3 meals along with the regular meals, od course cutting back on the portion of the regular meals. This may not work if they do not like the taste of straight liver or heart. Mine like it so they will eat the puree. They have always eaten all of the puree by the time the next meal is due. This has made the liver/heart poops regular.
I have heard some are sensitive to liver and some are not. My 3 seems to all be effected.

Looking back at the poop charts, is did seem a bit 'too formed.' He hasn't been on kibble in 3 weeks now, so that's not the issue. Could it be that there was too much bone? He ate the heart with not problem, so I sapose I can try pureeing it and adding it to a bone in meal.

I weighed Pepe this afternoon and he gained another 1.5oz. He ate ALL his food again so I will try putting another little bit.... Again. Surely 5-6 oz 2 times a day is enough! Lil piggy! We had salmon for dinner and I cut a small sliver for him. He was not impressed needless to say. I see what you mean by them acting like you are trying to kill them. Haha we will try again later.

So I was thinking about the fact her wouldn't eat the salmon. When you are introducing new foods do you go back to the 'scruff n' sample' technique? Just to get them to try it, or should you soup it up and add to the meats they already area eating? I tried the scruffing when I gave him the salmon, but when he rejected it I didn't push, maybe I should have went back and tried this again later? What would you all suggest?

You can scruff n stuff. I tried it with the salmon as well. They did not go for it.
With the tuna and swordfish steaks I just offered it. After some lengthy sniffing they took it and ate it.
Does not hurt to keep trying though. Every time I cook some salmon I slice off some raw slivers and offer it. Maybe one day they will feel adventureous and try it

That's kinda what I was thinking, but I will definitely try some other fish as it comes up on our own dinner menu.

New week, New meal preparations. I was excited to get to town finally and do some shopping for the weirder stuff. I even found a duck! Head and all, I figured I'd save that for a rainy day :0) he is also up to 2 lbs 8 oz, 5 oz gain since last week. Here's the menu for next week: Mon Am: bone in chicken Pm: pork heart Tue Am: bone in chicken Pm: bone in duck Wed Am: pork muscle meat Pm: bone in chicken Thu Am: pork tongue + 2oz pork liver Pm: bone in chicken Fri Am: bone in chicken Pm: chicken muscle meat Sat Am: bone in chicken Pm: beef heart + kidney Sun Am: bone in chicken Pm: bone in Cornish hen
I was very happy to get 5 different proteins in this week! The duck and Cornish hen are the new things so I tried to separate them in the week. Question for someone though. Does pork trend to be a bit smellier than other meats? The heart and uteri I found just stink! Not like bad meat or anything, just pungent. Please feel free to comment on menu with suggestions or needed change.

Looks like a pretty good menu, main thing long term would be make sure you are doing a variety of cuts for the bone in, not just wings or just legs type of thing, you've got some red meat days in there which is great, plenty of bone in, organ meals. Is everything being eaten? Any heart meat and red meat tends to be stronger smelling and tasting, never dealt with uteri but organs in general are stinky. Is the pork from a regular grocery store or a smaller butcher?

goingpostal, the meat was from an Asian market I just picked up Saturday. I gave Pepe his meal of hearts Sunday morning and since I had the pork heart now I switched it out for the beef that was in there and he didn't TOUCH it! He barely ate the little bit of chicken I out in either (he has been eating more than the 4 oz I packaged, so I have been adding 1-2 oz of the extra chicken I had on hand to make sure he gets his fill). The meat smelled HORRIBLE when I dumped it out also, which it never does, even the overnight stuff. So maybe it was going bad and I just didn't recognize the smell as bad. It was stinky, but I figured it was just the new pork I wasn't used to. And I went to scoop and he had yucky RUNNY, yellow almost white poop. There was 2 other poops that were normal in color, a little runny. Looking at the poop chart, I have no idea. Still really bad at this... The last meal I know he ate was chicken muscle meat. It was thighs I believe. He has never had issues with, so far, chicken. Here are pics of the poops: Could the poops be from NOT eating! Now that I look more closely, it looks a little red to me. hmmmm Also, he got his weekly raw whole egg yesterday before the evening meal in which he ate about 2/3 of it. Now I am worried about feeding the pork uterus because it smelled too. Not as bad I'll admit, more like the beef kidneys from a few weeks ago. I am definitely going to trash the Pork heart though, all 2 lbs of it! ANY advice would be appreciated. Also to add, he acted fine during his morning run around. I didn't even know there was a problem until I was putting him away and that is when I do feeding and poop checks. The only 'notable' thing was he did look skinny, but not eating all night will do that to a furr-wee one. His Monday am feeding was chicken bone it, hopefully he eats it ok.

So happy Pepe has met the 3 lb mark!! 3 lb and 2.1 oz to be exact. Haha and Oli, to follow his new brother, is just over 2 lbs now! Both are gaining at about 5 oz (give or take an oz or so) a week. Pepe pretty much eats anything in his bowl, but has gone from almost 6 oz a feeding to about 4 oz twice a day. Oli is doing good on the soupy, but is not switching as fast as Pepe. He is wayyyy more stubborn than his brother. I still have to add kibble to it but am down to about 1/8 a cup if not less. I think if he can smell it he thinks it good and not poison. I always try to feed him it before the kibble is added and he just won't. Especially in the morning I don't have more than 10 or so minutes to spend with him. As soon as I add the kibble though he goes to town. Lil brat. And I know Pepe eats some of it. I keep catching him sneaking bites. Also a brat lol. But Oli is gaining so he must be eating something! Poops also look good. I get a bit of a soft one here and there but it's on the liver days mostly. I have been splitting a bone in meal with whatever else (ie heart, liver, muscle meat) for Pepe at each feeding and I am getting much less soft poops. Things in general are going well I think :0)

One thing to try is using one piece of kibbles or an 1/8 tsp of powdered kibbles. I can remember having read or actually had a mentee who's kibble head actually insisted on that 1 piece of kibbles. Sometimes, she didn't even eat it but it was there to provide it's stink. There's no accounting for taste lol ciao
