Have all your glucometer supplies to hand, along with a favourite oil, and some vaseline. Set up the glucometer with test strip. Lay ferret on his back in your lap as though you were going to trim nails. Put oil on tummy, and while ferret is busy licking oil off, "pump(lightly squeeze/release a few times)" either toe pad, or tail to increase blood flow to the area. Apply a VERY light smear of vaseline on area to be lanced. Using lancet, poke through the skin, and hold glucometer with strip to bead of blood that comes up. All you need is a small bead, and having "pumped" the area it should come fairly easily. Glucometer will beep when it has enough blood. With Willow, I find I have trouble getting it from a toe pad, or from her tail tip, so I use the underside where there is less fur about midway up on the bottom of her tail. She doesn't even appear to notice the poke, or the blood taken if she has enough oil on her belly
