Bleu seems to be limping on his rear left foot/leg. I felt it and it did not seem broken and he did not show any signs of pain. But I know how these guys are stoic and will still carry on through some extreme pain. He is playing and eating just fine. he still has energy and will engage in play with me.
see video
I need to know if this can wait until tomorrow morning or take him to the emergency vet. The emergency vet is not ferret experienced and they said they may have to sedate him to do an x-ray. I will not let a non- ferret vet sedate my ferret. Do you guys think I should take him and see if they can do the x-ray without sedation or do you think I can wait until he can his regular vet tomorrow?
also, I have some tramadol left over from Hammie's tail surgery. should I give him some.
attached is video of him walking.

I would keep him confined tonight (no climbing all over the cage) and take him tomorrow. He is putting weight on it and getting around pretty well. He might have pulled a muscle or something. That is just my opinion

I agree. Confine him to a single level and see how he is tomorrow. His leg could easily be strained.

He is still limping the same. I am getting ready to head out to the vet. I am going to see if they can squeeze me in today. I will sit and wait all day if I have to.

When you first brought Bleu home, you wrote that he was uncoordinated and walked funny, I would mention that to the vet. I've actually seen Roamy do that once or twice, after waking up. I watched him and I think it might have been a leg that fell asleep. You know how, that happens to us and we walk on pins and needles, while it wakes up. Let us know what the vet says, and give Bleu an extra hug from me.

Back from the vet. $250.00 later. look like it may just muscle tissue damage, no bone fractures or breakage seen. if anyone wants to take a closer look let me know and I will email you the x-rays.

Very cool.. the x-rays I mean, not that Bleu is hurting. I've never seen a ferret x-ray before. Was he still for them or did they have to sedate him?

They did not need to sedate him. they had 2 people holding him for the x-rays. He slept the car ride there and back. When we got home I put him in his cage he ate then went to sleep. I went to check on him 45 mins later and he was laying in the cage lifeless. I picked him up and he went limp. Scared the crap out of me but then he woke. Bleu has had a rough day. This is the first time I have seen him DFS.

oh.my.gosh. The word 'lifeless' JUMPED out at me when I opened this thread! I almost had a heart attack just now. Wow. My heart is still racing from the shock, even after reading the whole thing. Poor baby. Poor mommy/daddy(?) too. I hope you all have a better day tomorrow

just keep that in mind if you ever see a lifeless ferret in the cage. This only happened once before with my first ferret. I almost had the hole dug in the back yard before he came out of DFS. It was really scary because I had never heard of it, I looked it up online after it happened and everyone was saying this happens occasionally. That should be the first thing that is told to new ferret owners because it is that scary.
BTW he is still sleeping, I put the soup in front of him and he woke up long enough to eat and then went back to sleep.

It's hard to see if there are ant fractures/disarticulatioins in the only shot of his left foot, but is that foot sensitive at all? Since he's limping on his left rear leg I would have hoped for more specific images. Of course, soft tissue damage doesn't show up on x-rays. I am no expert, but I've had a little training, and I don't see any dislocations or fractures elsewhere. I hope with a little rest he's ok.
I appreciate you posting his films. I'd like to save them for future reference, if it's ok and doesn't violate ferret HIPPA laws.

I asked my vet for copies of the x-rays and they said no problem. that is all that was said. I have had vets in the past refuse, or say that they have to have them back, blah blah. Or make me sign some stuff. What are they professional photographers now, Geeze. I assume that they are mine I spent $150 on them.
I paid the extra for them to send the x-rays off to be evaluated, so if there is anything in the x-rays even not related to this injury they will tell me.
the foot does not seem to be the issue, we think it is in the leg. besides is there anything you can do with a foot fracture in a tiny little ferret foot?
I just asked Bleu He said it is fine for you to use the X-rays
