Hi Tracey You can use whatever meat you prefer and can access as long as it's not altered in any way. IE salted, smoked, brined, etc. We generally recommend chicken because it's more easily received as well as being more easily accessible for most. Heart is taurine. Period. It is assumed that ferret, like cats, do NOT produce taurine in their own bodies so need to get it from external sources. Liver is vit A and vit D as well as a variety of other nutrients only found IN the liver.

So would I use this recipe when I'm trying to start feeding my babies raw? What if they don't want to touch anything meat? They LOVE their kibble, and just don't know that they love meat yet! lol Do I have to syringe the stuff into their mouths to get them accustomed? Help!

Oh, and I have another question... Do you have to "freeze" them in cube trays? Or can I give it to them regularly as soup? I've never had them have ice cubes before... let alone a "soup concoction" full of meat...

I've never had them have ice cubes before... let alone a "soup concoction" full of meat... The ice cube trays are just to freeze them into portion sized chunks for later use. I think most people thaw them before giving them to the ferts. I put my cubes, two to a snack sized baggie for my two boys. I put two baggies in the fridge each night for the next day. When it's time to feed, I float them in warm water a few minutes, stir them, and give them to my babies. We are still transitioning and they'll only eat warm raw food.

Ice cube sized tend to be a perfect size when first transitioning. After freezing Baggie the cubes and thaw whatever they will eat

Got it! This is a brilliant site! Didn't realize that using a coffee grinder would work! of course it would! I was thinking you're supposed to go to the store and find this.. "powered eggshell".. Making it seems MUCH easier.. Now I have to locate a place near me to sell me the meat parts. Hmm.

What do you think about this product for soup? This was something locally and it's pre packaged together.. would this be okay for soup?? Do I still need to add the eggshell since it has bone? Should it not have the bone? Help?!

Still hoping for someone to respond to my picture/post about what they think of these foods... Do you think these are acceptable? Do I need to add eggshell since it already has bone in it? Do I water it down a bit to make it into a "soup"?

This must have gotten missed, somehow. I'm not familiar with this, but a Mentor will probably weigh in, soon. I'll keep an eye out and keep this up front.

It looks good to me. Sorry, missed your message. If you want to turn it into soupy adding water or an egg will make it to a more easily edible consistency for a raw switch. You shouldn't need to add anything to it but if you are seeing consistently loose stools you may need to add some egg shell but I would certainly try it as is first to see if you have an issue first. ciao

I saw this when on my phone and couldn't make out the photo and forgot to reply here *oops!* I gather those are frozen chubs? Then yes, they are just fine Your best bet with those is likely going to be to partially thaw, portion out, and refreeze in baggies or containers. Better than thaw/refreeze which can cause freezer burn, or wasting by having the entire thing go bad in the fridge.
