You can use either canned or fresh pumpkin. But with fresh you need to cook it. The eggshell has to dry before you grind it, or you wind up with a big mess You can also use bonemeal powder. Just be sure to get human grade.

Awesome, thanks for the reply. I have an abundance of canned pumpkin, Im glad I finally have a better use for it than pie

If using canned make sure it is pure pumpkin with no spices or additives (ie, not pie filling).
As for uses beyond pie, the sky is the limit! Trifles, cakes, bars, pancakes, waffles, muffins/bread, as filling mixed with cream cheese for french toast..... (pumpkin addict here)

So I've seen soup recipes on here that say to use both 1 oz heart and I've seen to use 2oz heart. Also, I have seen 1/2tsp bonemeal and 1/4tsp bonemeal. Which of each of these is correct?
I have been following the soup recipe on the Mentoring thread: 8oz meat 2oz liver 1oz heart 1/2tsp bonemeal 1tbsp pumpkin
is this not OK?

I would say adding extra heart is always a good idea as long as stools are still okay. I find my fuzzies do better with more calcium/bone than less. The amount is definitely variable for ferret. If stools are formed, you're probably doing just fine. Dry stools = too much calcium.

Agreed! Pay attention to your fuzz's stools. That is always the first indicator of a problem

This is likely the only place people won't think I'm weird for counting poops lol

Since a ferret processes their food so fast- poops are important! So no-poop talks are pretty normal here as are poop pics ;D

Earlier today while I was changing and cleaning their cage they ate 3 1/2 tbs of soup. I saw each tasting it at one point or another but not sure exactly who finished it off.
If I can ever get the cubes out of the tray how many cubes is a serving per ferret?

However much they'll eat? ;D Seriously, right now it's going to be trial and error to find out how much they'll eat in one sitting, and each will be different. To get them out a bit easier, run warm water over the back of the tray. You should be able to pop them out by twisting the tray then.

I just made my first raw soup last night, and I really enjoyed it! I used to make a partially cooked soup for Spencer and Priscilla, but I found this much easier, and I really enjoyed measuring. It made it more like a "real" soup, instead of just opening cans and blending them together! My new boys Merlin and Hermes will have their first taste of it tonight!! Can't wait

Great idea on using the oil! I will have to try that. And all of you who keep soup in the diet for sick times, and to keep them used to it are geniuses!! I am learning so much great stuff from you guys.
