It's entirely possible he got yhe bottle open but didn't actually ingest any because it didn't smell like food or look interesting enough. I hope that I'm guessing right. It's also possible that he ingested a little but not enough to be fatal. I totally understand your sense of panic.

Oh thank goodness!!!! (dance) I was so worried I was refreshing this page all night for updates. Rotten little beastie! I'm so glad he seems to be okay. Definitely keep monitoring him and it would probably be a good idea to get another blood panel in 2-3 days to be safe. Give him lots of hugs and smooches! The Rotten brats sure do like to give us scares, don't they?

Oh he injested it all right. He had squinty eyes, extremely lethargic, then he started retching, wouldn't eat or drink (but still wanted Ferretone), wouldn't play for more than a few minutes and not very enthusiastically, and was grinding his teeth (indicator of abdominal pain). Back from work, I put all three on bed rest in their cage for the day so Rowdy could rest and I could monitor playtime when I got home. Rowdy's eyes are much brighter and he is happily trundling around my room looking for toys. He also peed when he got up, ate a little bit of food, and drank a good bit of water, YAY! Though that seems to have irritated his tummy a little bit. He'll be getting Sub Q fluids tonight (time to look up how to do that) and more Sucralfate. Yes, they are good at giving me heart attacks. This was as bad as the blanket-eating incident, maybe worse. On another note, the vet bill was super reasonable for all they did! $163 for exam, bloodwork, charcoal, Sucralfate, and Sub Q fluids (with spares to take home). I am so glad I was able to take him in, he is my sweet sweet baby. He was a rescue and has never ever bitten me. When the vet stuck him for bloodwork he crawled up her and snuggled his face under her neck. They were very taken with him. Here he is, right next to me, still tired out. www.instagram.com/p/k23ZstAvpqAnd sister Dakota is going to watch over him. www.instagram.com/p/k245urgvrR

Hmmm when he's awake he is constantly squinting and grinding his teeth. Are there no easy things to settle his stomach? Could the Sucralfate be doing it?

Sulcralfate should be helping to soothe his stomach, not upset it. It is a tummy coater. Maybe ask the vet if you can give some Pepsid as well - you can get it over the counter at any store. I have used pepsid+carafate for IBD before, but I'm not sure for ibuprofen toxicity. Check the article I emailed you too, there are a few medications that were recommended there for protecting the stomach after ibuprofen ingestion. $163 for all of that?! Not bad at all! That would just cover exam and blood work up here.

Yeah the other place was gonna charge $220 just to come in and get blood work. AND, I was able to call her at 10:30 PM my time and she called me back! I didn't ask about Peptid, but I will be talking to her tomorrow. She did say that if his gums were still nice and pink (which they were) and he wasn't vomiting (and he wasn't) and he would eat and drink at least a little (which he did), then he is ok and just uncomfortable. Had a hard time with Sub Q tonight, she gave me a syringes with the solid 20 gauge needles and also a 22 needle. Anyway, we had 3 people and Ferretone and he could still jump right off the needle once I got it in. And the last time he cried after as well. I felt awful, he felt awful, so we settled on 5 MLs. I was supposed to get 15 in. I'm just so worried about him, I want him to be ok and happy so bad.

Managed to get all 15 mls in him this morning. He was sleeping and I went very very slowly with the fluids. He still woke up and wiggled but it was a lot better. However, he seems weaker and even more lethargic this morning. Grinding his teeth a lot less so maybe his tummy feels better. Gums weren't quite as pink and his skin felt a little loose so I was really determined he was going to get all his fluids. He did go peepee so that's good, as long as his kidney's continue to output and he isn't bleeding internally then we're good. But now I have to go to work, I'm working two jobs today. I'm honestly so scared something will happen while I'm gone. But I gotta go, please continue to send prayers, he's not out of the woods quite yet.

Poor little guy, poor little Mom, you guys have been thru so much. Sending all my best Well Wishes. Your vet sounds like a very caring and concerned doc. When you get a chance, it would be great to add her name to our vet list.

what is going on with him now? he was normal and fine before he ate the tab of advil ? listen i lost a 1.5 year old to renal failure (he stole a piece of chocolate and ate it) and it is awful.
the symptoms you describe are not good. what does his breath smell like? does it smell fresh or like ammonia? can you see any ulcers in his mouth? any red spots? is he sleeping most of the day and just lethargic? no appetite? not eating on his own?

It can take a while for symptoms to show, and for them to go away. Poor baby. Keep up the fluids and good care. I'm crossing my fingers for you both.
A tip on giving the fluids - put some yummy treat on a flat surface (table, floor) to distract him. Salmon oil is great, Ferretone, etc. Put a decent amount down or they will lap it up too fast - it helps to have extra hands so someone can refill the treat puddle as needed. Let him stand on the flat surface. One person retrains, one person gives the injection. It's a lot harder if you don't have extra hands to help. If you haven't already, recruit a friend or family member and show them how to hold his scruff while he eats the treats and you do the fluids.
