Hi my name is Jessica.
I am 20 years old and working on my BS in Zoology with minors in Chemistry and Animal Science. I will be graduating with an Honors Degree and a Certificate in Companion Animal Nutrition.
I currently attend SIUC as a full time student as well as working 3 jobs. I work as a receptionist/kennel care giver at an animal hospital, a cashier at my campus grocery store, and a as a lab/research assistant at my campus Parasitology Lab. Actually, the research I am doing in the Parasitology lab is looking promising in that I may have found a new species. So I might be published soon ( ). Last summer I interned at my local no-kill shelter as a vet assistant and this summer I have a paid internship at Peaceful Pastures in Tennessee working with large animals.
Once I finish with my undergrad, I am going to apply to vet school and we'll just see where that takes me. I have always been an animal person. When I was younger I would have any 'pet' that I could catch: turtles, lizards, snakes, frogs, caterpillars, moths, lightening bugs, snails, crickets, prey mantises etc. Of course I would end up releasing them back into the wild. And then there were my stray 'pets' that I would feed. My family has always had dogs and now I currently have 3 ferrets, 2 fish, and I help my roommate take care of her bunny.
Here is Zazu (male, deaf, 7 months petco bought) and I after his walk
Zazu and Xena (female, maybe 1 yr?, adopted at shelter old family just released her into the wild) tuckered out after a play date
This is Binxi a.k.a Little Bear (male, 3 months, convinced some new friends to give him to me because they had him on horrible cat food, in a tiny cage, and never let him out)
My Gold fish (Sea King and Francais respectively)
My roomates and my bunny (Checkers a.k.a Bun Bun adopted)
