Hello everyone, While I am waiting for my mentor I thought I would create a switching thread for Bea. She is doing very well and has been eating a raw diet since Jan. 17th. She already looks and acts SO much better...

She is still eating the soupies primarily. 8oz. of chicken, 1-2 oz. pig heart, 2oz. of pig liver, 1/2 tsp egg shell powder and a smidge of pumpkin (1/2 tsp.). I've started to mix in chicken slivers too, she's getting better at eating those (some pieces are as big as my whole pinky nail). I'd like to get her eating bone too, but I think I'll wait until she is totally comfortable eating the slivers. Do I have to worry about giving her locally raised pig heart and liver? Parasites? It's been frozen for more than 4 weeks.

Also, should I cut her back some? She started at 1 lb. 4oz. Now she is 1lb. 8.6oz!

I'd cut the pumpkin entirely and just use it for emergencies. We were doing this regularly until as a group we discovered that some ferrets are genetically inclined toward insulinoma. 1/2 tsp pumpkin a day was enough to trigger insulinoma in our one who'd been raw fed from 6 m of age. As for cutting back, not yet. She is going to go through a massive appetite surge for 4-6 weeks once the kibble is completely out of the picture. That is normal. She'll cut herself back once she's made up for the lack of nutrition in the kibble. Also- muscle weighs more than fat, and that's what she's building with the meat

Is it okay to mix lamb and chicken in the same soupie? I'm mixing 4oz. lamb and 4oz chicken.

yes, you can mix, just start slowly and watch her poop, they can have protein-sensitivities (or even allergies), but lamb is rather considered not to cause allergic reactions, but you never know so better watching her closely after eating the new soup-mix
