You need organs and also heart (which is not classed as an organ but a muscle meat but is necessary for taurine). When making a menu remember that what you are trying to do is mimic a predators diet. They eat the whole animal, and get different nutrients from the different bits, so that means not only meat and bone but organs too.

I forgot to mention that I have chicken hearts and gizzards available for them daily.
I will add in some chicken and beef liver.
Any other organs needed?

You'll need approx 1.5 meals heart and the same of liver per week per ferret. Also if possible another organ like kidney, brain, etc 1 meal a week.

Is too much heart and gizzards bad. Do you think I should only offer heart and gizzard 2 days a week. I am worried that not everybody is getting them. Mogwai loves the gizzards (hes the rubber chewer) and blue loves the hearts. Between the two of them I don't think Tazz is getting any of them.
I put out about 6 gizzards and 3 hearts and they are gone within an hour.
How do you make sure each ferret is getting what it needs and not just what it wants.
also on days that they do not get bone, I should expect loose poops, right?
I know Mogwai is mostly eating the muscle meats because his poop is black and tarlike.
I will try and find some brain or kidney. So far I can't find them at any of my butchers and supermarkets.

I do one full meal of heart, and one full meal of liver. When that is all they get they tend to eat When it comes to the half- give them that first and the rest later after it's eaten. Or you could do one meal of half heart/half liver. And gizzards are muscle meat

ok so the idea is not to give them a choice. feed them just liver so that all of them get liver. next day give them all heart and gizzards and then the next day give them bonein chicken ect
I don't think they are getting any of the bone from the pork and the beef. So I am not counting them as bone in meals. Only chicken and game hen and quail, and perhaps mouse.
what are some other animal bones that they can eat.

Actually- just use the gizzards as a muscle meal and give a full meal of heart.

ok I updated the menu,
I think the only thing still needed is another organ. I will try and find one this weekend. really hard to find kidney, brain, spleen, lung, Pancreas, or sweetbreads (Thymus) around here.
They were not fond of the beef shank at all, however they ate the stew meat. Weird.
I am seeing that it really is not worth it to feed meat without edible bone, It is really hard to fit meat without bone in the menu without removing an item with bone.
they also don't seem to keen on the quail. They only nibbled on it last night. Will have to see what they do with it during the day. They are currently annihilating the quail.
I have the feeding hooks on my webcam so I can see who is eating and when.

You need some heart and some liver and how about kidney...that's an easier combination. I can't often get lung and pancreas or sweetbreads unless I feed whole prey. They got all of that this week because they got served a whole rabbit, head and all. When I'm trying to do frankenprey, often I can only get liver and kidneys which works. Heart is very necessary unless you're going to supplement taurine ciao

I know their poop is black and tarry after eating heart and gizzards. I will see if I can find some kidney. I though about a whole rabbit. However I am having a hard time finding anyone selling meat rabbits (not live) I can find them live everywhere. I don't think I could do that to a rabbit.

Sorry...missed your heart...getting old {sigh}. No, it's enough. I do use heart as a treat occasionally giving more than just one meal, it is after all a muscle meat. Mice are also very high in taurine. I can't kill a rabbit either. I had a fantastic supplier at one point but she sold out her stock when she discovered it was too much work. I've just found another possible supplier which would be great as I really want to go back to feeding more prey. ciao

I can get rabbit at a specialty store, But it is cleaned of all organs and such. Much of the poultry is the same way. Hard to get organs around here

I can get rabbit prepared for people fairly regularly. It does have the heart and liver left in it which is nice. ciao
