It's a deer that has been dead for quite a while.

Love these vids, the bloodthirsty ermine was as cute as can be even with a bloody face! Polecats are beautiful, love their colors and mask.

Following vid links, I came upon a wild polecat making weird vocalizations. Is this a form of angry dooking? It almost sounds like they're clicking their teeth together. And the unmistakeable hiss, of course. I do hope it wasn't kept long-term in that cage.

That looks like a fascinating and fun book (although not very well proof-read)! I haven't heard half the sounds the author mentions, but then my ferret doesn't even dook. It has @poncesmom's "honking" in there (we're still waiting for that video of Juliet ). Heather, do any of your hybrids make this noise?

That is the I'm going to tear your face off if and when you open this cage....and yes I've heard it. That's barking. It's a high stress warning and you'd better listen. This is the noise that tells you you're going to get bitten, and it won't be a love nip. I've heard it from both my jills and from Tico. That was Lady Morgain's initial reaction to my dog and one day when I startled her when she was digging herself into my flour. She was concentrating on getting into the bag of flour, without thinking and not warning her, I grabbed her...she gave me a proper lashing. This noise was also made by Lady Lola when she thought her babies were in trouble. If you hear this from your ferret respect their space and let them settle. I will be honest, I've never heard a ferret make this noise ciao

Wow! So definitely as dangerous and threatening as it sounds. Interesting that the hybrids will do it but not the ferrets.

Wow, I used to think the sound Gidget makes was barking, but it's nothing like that. She makes a yelping sound. Sometimes it sounds like a little kid screaming. She does it when the others get near her food. She also did it once when I was playing rough with her, I think I frightened her. None of the other ferrets have ever made the same sound though, it's strange.

This is slightly off-topic, but Heather, where does one acquire a hybrid in Canada? I've been wanting to get a non-mill ferret for awhile but I haven't had any luck finding a private breeder in BC. A hybrid might be too much for my docile little Marshalls though.
