so we took punky to the vet today, i also decided to take along pebbles. well she's lost a lot of weight. she was around 0.82 after her surgery and she's now 0.60 something. she's also have diarrhea.
the vet is doing some research, and she going to get back to us soon, and probably send us to another vet. she said the next step would probably be blood work next.
i'm going to be giving her some soups. should i put in squash baby food to help slow it down?

How old is she? Could be spring time weight loss coupled with dehydration from the diarrhea. Has she been eating/drinking/pooping/peeing normally? What about changes in activity level?

she had an exploratory surgery. it seems she's eating. her activity level is normal for her. but i am going to be pushing soups every evening, just to see if it'll help her gain weight, and i think I'm going to keep her separated from the others.

could be stress from recovering from surgery. do you have RR? sometimes when my ferrets shed they have some mild diarrhea. is it really watery/runny or more like pudding?

by the way, my ferret is slimming down for summer. he's shedding/growing in a new coat and his stools have been looking a little off here and there. he was a porker this winter. if you see excessive weight loss then that is a time to worry if she is eating and drinking normally, normal activity then i would not worry.

You'll need to repair your link- it's not working, for me at least. Says the thread doesn't exist. Since she's eating/playing like normal, I'd be hesitant to separate her just yet. The stress of it could exacerbate any problems she might be having. What was her normal weight before the surgery, and what was the exploratory for?

BTW the link doesn't work for me either. Was she on antibiotics after this exploratory surgery? It may have disturbed the intestinal flora and threw her digestion off balance. If so, is give her plain organic yogurt w/ probiotics like keffir. .25 cc's every 8 hrs. Wysong makes something called "pet innoculant" that works well (seems to for me anyway). Put some powder electrolytes in the water- or mix 1/2 pedialyte half water. One of ferrets had surgery to remove a tumor on his skin and this stressed him enough to give him the runs. the anesthesia alone could do it. but when was the surgery and (as sherry asked) what were they exploring for?

I believe she was thought to have a blockage, if I remember correctly.

yes, we thought she had a blockage, but she didn't. the vet afterwards thought it could be helicobactor, so she was treated for that, with antibiotics.
i don;t know what's up with the link, i re copied it and pasted it, and it's still not working.
it was march 2 that she had her surgery.
is not dropping over 0.20 kg excessive amount of weight? she seems really skinny now.
anyway, she didn't eat much last night, but she did eat what was given to her today. there's no more food in her dish.

Link to pebbles suspected blockage/surgery: holisticferret60.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=vetting&action=display&thread=591&page=4How much did she weigh to begin with? 0.2 kg (about half a lb) is quite a bit of weight (especially assuming she used to weight about 2-2.5 lbs like most females). However, it's not impossible. I'd watch her eating habits and make sure she's actually eating the food you give. Maybe add some extra fat or a milk replacer to her meals to help put some meat on her. The weight loss could be from shedding, slimming down, stress of surgery and everything else.

That is a big drop. I'd try hand feeding some soupies supplementary to her regular meals, just to make sure she's actually eating it, and not just licking, chewing, but not actually swallowing enough. If her weight goes up with that, she may have to backtrack a bit on her diet. How is her activity level, pooping, etc.?
