This board has been set up for the dual purpose of those who are either waiting for a mentor and want to get a jump start on their switch(these will take priority), as well as those who feel they cannot commit to the requirements of having a one on one mentor(still the preferred route). We will still take ALL switches very seriously and will offer the best advice we can. If you choose to take it that is up to you. We will only post as often as you do The more you are able to post, the faster your switch will go, and the more successful it will be. Only posting once a week during the early stages sets you both up for failure as you won't be as aggressive with pushing your ferret as is sometimes needed. It will still be a very good idea to follow along with the rules for the mentoring program where feasible, such as posting a picture of your ferret(s) from the top view once every couple of weeks to give everyone an idea if your ferret is loosing TOO much weight as they can appear to eat when they actually aren't. It is also a good idea to post a weekly "weigh in", activity log, etc. One thing some of our mentees are starting is keeping a daily log book on intake, what's working, what isn't and so on. Another good reason for this is if your ferret develops a sensitivity to a particular protein you will have a better idea what it is without having to do an entire elimination diet.

Also please realize that this is NOT a replacement for the Mentoring Program. I know Sherry said it but I want to make sure it's really drilled in. The Mentoring Program requirements are set up for a reason and if you cannot meet them you may want to consider whether you are properly prepared to make the switch. Also it is a wonderful and unique program - your mentor will be an invaluable and LONG-TERM resource even after you have graduated. We really encourage you to sign up for a mentor if and when you can.
