1. Where did you first learn about natural diets for ferrets?
On your FB page
2. Please describe the type of diet you would like assistance in switching your ferret(s) to. Be sure to include if you are interested in feeding whole prey (live or frozen-thawed) and if you are wanting to FULLY switch to a natural diet or PARTIALLY. If you are unsure what kind of diet you want to put your ferrets on, please express that and we can help you find the best type of natural diet for your ferret.
I'd like to fully switch my ferrets to raw, just NOT live whole pray.
3. Why are you interested in switching your ferrets to a natural diet?
i know it's best for them.
4. Do you understand that switching your ferret to a natural diet can be a lengthy, arduous process? Its not an overnight switch. It can be a commitment of several weeks or even months. Your HF Mentor will be more then happy to assist you in switchng your ferret(s) to a natural diet, but you need to be equally as commited. If you aren't willing to tough out a potentially lengthy switching process, or if you have major life changes approaching (baby on the way, moving, starting school, getting married/divorced, etc) then it might be a better idea to wait on switching your ferret's diet until you have more time. Are you willing to make the commitment?
i am, and i am aware it wont be overnight, i tried to introduce my oldest ferret raw meet for about a year
5. How many ferrets do you currently have? What are their names? Ages? Genders? Do they have any health problems? Are they overweight? Underweight? How long have you had each ferret for?
1. Nyx, almost 4 year old female. have her for 3 years, weight - 870-900 grams. She is the "ill one", and my reason for coming here. She has adrenal (with a suprelorin implant for 2 years), also eosinofilic enteritis, splenomegalia and probably IBD. her BG levels are very low few months ago, but since i started to switching her on raw meat, we stabilized BG for now with only a diet. she's on high doses of Pred for immunosuppression for the last 3 weeks...
2. Baylis, 2,5 yo female, have her since she was 2 months old, weight 720g. with suprelorin implant for 2 years (chemical castration), healthy so far...
3. Oscar, 1,5 yo male, came to our home 2 months old, castrated, 1900g. healthy so far...
6. What diet do you currently feed your ferrets? (Please include all treats, supplements, etc)
Nyx - raw meat puree with bones and organs 3-4 times a day (80% meat including hearts and gizzards, 10% bones, 5% liver and 5% other organs).i don't give her a chicken or turkey meat and eggs (IBD - recommended by a vet). also getting sucralfat, Bene Bac plus probiotics and Glicopan pet (vitamin and mineral suplements for sick ferrets). 2 drops of ferretone and very small piece of malt paste with a Pred cause it's the only way to give her medicine. And salmon oil and vaseline periodically.
Baylis - Orijen whole pray, Taste of the wild and N&D lamb and boar, best quality cat/kitten food we can get here. She also eats freeze dried meet, just a little bit of a raw puree when she's in the mood ( ), salmon oil, vaseline periodically, and tiny bits of raw rabbit, duck and turkey meat (she likes it 2-3 days old).
Oscar - same as Baylis, only bigger amount of raw puree.
7. Have you ever tried to switch your ferrets to a natural diet in the past? If yes, what happened?
i'm still trying
8. What additional information about yourself or your ferrets would you like to share?
LoL, i don't know i'm a EMS nurse, work in 12 hrs shifts and i'm often on call, so maybe will be day or two in one month when i'm off the internet. Usually, i need to know everything before i get into something new, but i'm reading and reading your threads...and i will need a year to read everything so, i assume that it would be much easier if i apply for a mentor and i can ask specific questions and get the answers without beeing lost and of course, i want to do something good for my furballs.
9. How often during the week do you have access to a computer?
Every day.
10. Please post a picture of each of your ferrets (if possible).
11. Have you met the requirements for this program? Do you have your scale, a place to access meats, hearts, livers, etc?
yes, i have everything.
