Hello! I was referred to this forum from Ferret.com, I want to learn about raw feeding and hopefully get a mentor to help get my lil ones on a raw diet!
First my story, my nephew bought a ferret and it was so cute and funny! I had always heard ferrets were terrible pets; they stink, they bite ALL the time, they poop and pee everywhere, etc. This is what a lot of people say about them. Well, based on my nephew's ferret, these things didn't quite seem to be true. My nephew's ferret Rosco was very cute and friendly, and above all playful! He is very happy with him. We kept talking about how fun it would be if I had a ferret to play with Rosco from time to time. I couldn't resist and bought one about 2 weeks ago.
His name is Fenton and I got him from Petco. He is a sweet little guy, he loves to cuddle and is really playful and silly. He's pretty clumsy and not very good at climbing or balancing on things, though he tries. He falls a lot! He also loves to pounce with his paws spread and his mouth open! He absolutely loves wrestling with other ferrets, never seems to tire of it, though he is pretty gentle. His favorite move is the body slam, where he just jumps on top of his opponent and tries to smoosh them. He is very mouthy, biting a lot while playing, but it's always so soft it wouldn't hurt a baby. He's really good at being gentle. Also, I found out he is deaf. What can I say, it doesn't really seem to effect him! It's kind of an advantage actually, I can hold him and pet him to sleep while watching TV and the noise doesn't bother him According to his certificate he is about 4 months old.
After having Fenton about a week, I noticed a beautiful little bandit female at the local pet store while shopping for ferret toys. She was so active and curious, always up and playing while the other ferrets all slept. I saw her on 3 different days at the store and she was always the first to come up to the glass to see me. Well ferret math got me, and I kept thinking how much Fenton could use a buddy, so I took her home and named her Fiona. She is a sweet little thing, very different personality vs. Fenton. Her hearing is acute, and she loves the sound of crinkly things. She rarely ever bites when playing, unless I get her super excited biting some inanimate toy, then sometimes she makes a mistake and nips a little too hard, not enough to draw blood but enough to hurt a little. I'm working on teaching her to be more gentle, and I think she is learning, I'm not worried about it. She also loves to be petted to sleep, but not as much as Fenton. Partly because she doesn't sleep much! She seems to have unlimited energy. She is extremely inquisitive and very agile, able to climb and get into anything. She wrestles too but doesn't like wrestling as much as Fenton, so he often times just clobbers her while she tries to run away. Sometimes she gets sick of him mauling her and hisses at him! Fortunately when she wants to, she can always escape since she's faster than him. According to her health certificate she's only about 2 months old.
Whew I guess that got long! Anyway, I would love to get these fuzzbutts eating either a high-quality kibble supplemented with some raw food, or maybe even a straight raw food diet.
