LOL I am also a he, and Alice doesn't mind... A penis doesn't make someone a he or a guy anyhow. Haha Not to mention as I am guessing he is neutered, he is probably less of a "guy" than one might think. And don't forget Alice Cooper!!!! He's a man. As for the cold, ferrets can catch the flu virus, but not a cold virus. It is possible that he is having a relapse of whatever he had before (especially having stopped before completing a full course of antibiotics), or that he has a new infection that attacked while his immune system was weak. What antibiotics was he on before? Are you going to bring him back in? It might be a good idea to do a course of a different antibiotic(s).

Hey all! So in case anyone is interested in follow up, I took Alice back in after a few weeks as his cough lingered on. It turns out his whole lungs and abdomen were badly full of fluid which is really serious. He may be on the brink. I am really sad and also scared. It's either cardiomyopathy - in which case we can keep him on the dieuretic he's now on, and perhaps some blood thinners, and it will worsen with time but he will be able to live longer. Or else he's got a stomach full of cancer. Right now the high dose of dieuretic is helping flush the fluid out. Then we will redo X-rays once the fluid is gone and we can see something. Very dire and very sad.

That is sad, but it is a part of life, unfortunately. I hate watching them go.

My heart goes out to you and Alice. I also found the HFF, when my Ponce was almost seven and very sick. I do hope that he will be well and you will have more time with him. Please keep us posted and don't hesitate to ask questions or ask about test results and treatments. With all the cumulative years of experience on the forum, another ferrent (s) here have probably had a similar experience and can help answer questions or simply be here to help support you and your Alice.

Oh I am so very sorry It's tremendously frightening when something is wrong, and you feel so helpless when it's incurable. We'll be praying he still has some quality time with you. And thank you for updating us.
