I don't believe so, but have posted this question in a closed group on fb. Many have taken in rescues in a similar situation so should have an answer soon. Although as much as I hate to say it there could be a very valid reason she's rejected him/her

Kitten milk will be ok. I know of at least one breeder who has used it. I'm not sure if mum licking them stimulates toileting but she cleans them up after. Probably looking at 2 hour feedings. Hopefully you will soon have other help Runts often get the short end. It must have been nursing or it Would t have made it this far

Hi normally under the age of 7 days survival rate is not great the kit would need feeding every two hours day and night (I use a eye dropper do it very slowly so the fluid does not go into the lungs ) I use kitten replacer milk with a little whipping cream added for extra fat content after feeding the kit needs toileting take a ball of cotton wool and dampen it in warm water ( squeeze excess water out ) and gently wipe the anus this should encourage a kit to pee and poop ( and even as tiny things they can pee a lot lol)then gently dry them off keep it warm and give it something to snuggle up to if its tummy is full it should settle but as sherry has stated if mum keeps rejecting it there could be a reason 7 teats wont be the reason I have had jills with 6 or 7 teats raise litters of 13 with no problems please keep us up dated take care bye for now bev

Survival chances are pretty slim. Personally, i would euthanase it as runts usually don't flourish with their mothers, let alone being hand reared. And Jills will usually only discard kits if something serious is wrong.

I agree on the euth. It will likely not survive, even with the best effort on your part. And, for the record, ferrets do not imprint on one nipple like some other animals do. Cricket raised her 9 with 6 teats and they grew at a phenomenal rate. Apparently, she has Jersey cow somewhere in her lineage.

right... kits who are not recieving ferret milk for the first 12 days 98% will not survive. For the little one to be alive now at 5 days old he must be nursing some. Have you SEEN him nurse at all?
What you can do is top up feed and toilet for the little one. Do not get your hopes up but a drop at a time, hold the kit at aprox 45 degree angle and drip feed. watch to be sure the kit is swallowing otherwise you're just risking aspirating it instead.
The best formula to mimic ferret milk that i have found with work with a vet is kitten replacer mixed 2:1 with melted honey comb, the crunchy waxy bits.
Toilet after every feed.. a little warm wet cotton bud across the bits, they need to wee and poo after each feed, this happens pretty quick but not immediately some times...
Question. Is the mum happy with you near by? is she freaking out with you putting the kit near or touching the others?
Would it be possible to take a couple of the more robust away for a little while and help the little one latch on? I've done this successfully many times, though i admit i have had it fail too.
Watch the kit carefully so that the others aren't pushing it to the bottom of the pile, thats usually what happens with my weaker ones.
For the record.. having too few nipples has NOthinG to do with what's happening here.. most of my jills have more kits than nipples.. one year i had a group of 17 in with one jill while the other was at the vet for having busted a tooth. .. she just plops herself in the middle.. feeds half.. then turns over and feeds the other half.. instinct is amazing... i've seen this time and again... they CAN do it
Good luck!

Thanks for the update, it's great to hear mum and kits are doing well, even the runt.
Maybe it's my math but if they were 5 days old on 24 Dec then they are now 3 weeks old, aren't they?

No, it's not your math. It's not quite 3 weeks yet. And that's fantastic that they all made it, including the runt! So- when he's old enough are you keeping him :heehee:

OMG he's been separated completely from mum Or was he just never back with her again? Either/or he's going to need feeding every 2-3 hours around the clock right now. Let me get one of our breeders in with some more info for you.
