Hi Ferret Peeps,
I have a male who imprinted hard on Marshall's. I've been fighting with his diet for 3 years now and finally I'm in a position to make a serious attempt at feeding him raw, or at least whole foods.
Because of his fussiness about food, I'm thinking a form of soup would be a good place to start. I made him some delicious (I tasted it!) puree with chicken hearts and ferretvite. If I give him half ferretvite and half soup, he'll reluctantly tolerate getting the soup in his mouth in order to get the treats, but that's as far as I've gotten. He won't always do it, either. Sometimes he'll make this face like I tried to poison him and just walk away.
What I would like to do is toss his kibble lightly in the soup and slowly increase the amount of soup, but even this strategy has problems. It makes the kibble all sticky if he doesn't eat it right away, and if he doesn't eat all of it, then I have the problem of meat spoilage. I could switch from him having free access to food to just a few times a day, but then I don't know how much to make available to him or how often to change the food. Another issue is his girlfriend. She'll eat just about anything, so if I give him kibble and soup, even with enough ferretvite so he'll eat it, she eats it first and he doesn't get any.
I'd love some advice. I'm ready to go all out with this baby especially because he's showing signs of aging and because I live in a country where I can't get access to the higher quality kibbles I had in the US. But I know that if I spend too much time floundering that I'll give up, and I don't want that to happen.
Thanks!
Pink
