So it has long been passed around that freezing and thawing degrades the taurine content of meat. This is actually a big misconception. HEAT does indeed degrade taurine (cooking), FREEZING however does NOT. Below are two studies to support this statement. "Taurine has been shown to be very stable at high temperatures(18), and it is not affected by freeze–thaw cycles(19). Consistent with these observations, our data indicate that although the samples used in our study were frozen for almost 20 years, levels of serum taurine were similar to the values reported in the literature using samples stored for a shorter time." www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3128499/Page 3 of this study: biocor.umn.edu/assets/files/ANALYTE%20STABILITY%20&%20FREEZE-THAW%20INFORMATION-1.pdf"Taurine is not affected by freeze–thaw cycle"

This is really helpful, Katt. I tend to be super concerned, that mine are getting enough taurine and when I saw all the talk of taurine degrading, I got pretty worried. I'm so glad that you posted this.

We were all concerned. It's been a very commonly held belief in the raw feeding community for years that freezing degrades it. So we all have to wrap our heads around this wonderful news,

we have also confirmed that the taurine levels in the Franken Prey diet as it stands is more than enough.

Wahoo! I LOVE it when studies prove GOOD things! Thanks! Just wonder what that item looked like after twenty years frozen...

I just read this, that is awesome, since I thought I read somewhere before it would. So I was concerned with buying hearts in bulk to prevent running out, but having to freeze them to prevent ruining.
