I noticed there is not much discussion on setting up Gates and Barriers, for keeping our fuzzies confined to specific areas of our homes. Particularly useful for those of us in residences where we don't want our fuzzies getting out into areas that they should not be!
We live in a Rental Apartment, and so there are a lot of areas where the Fuzzies shouldn't go. The kitchen for example just has way too many dangers for them. Lots of open spaces under the cabinets, appliances, and the laundry closet in there too!
We're working on Ferret proofing various areas, slowly... but to start, we set up a little custom gate across the doorway of one room, to keep them from getting out of it.
What we did was, we started with a simple pressure mounted baby gate, that we bought at Lowes.
This one.

That fit nicely inside the door frame, but, the Fuzzies can still climb it right? So how to prevent that? Simple! Between the door frame and the Gate, we slid down a custom cut sheet of Plexiglas which cost only about $20 from Home Depot. this has made a nice barrier with a smooth surface that they can't climb, and is too high for them to jump, and yet low enough for a person to step over.
However, it is still transparent, and so they CAN see through and see whats on the other side which only taunts their insatiable sense of curiosity. So I am looking at replacing the plexiglas piece, with one of these plastic polypropylene sheets...

Presuming it will be sturdy enough that they won't be able to bend the bottom up, I think it will work out nicely for constructing a custom barrier across the width of our hallway so we can finally open up another room for them to free roam and have fun in..
However, I am curious as to what other solutions people have come up with for closing off doorways and hallways that prevents our fuzzies from getting out, while still keeping these areas open for us big people to get through.
