Anyone have experience transitioning a cat from kibble to raw that has feline herpes? I'm hoping this transition will help my baby Lucy. (ok so she's probably 1 now but still) but does anyone know anything that could aid in the fight against the herpes? Certain proteins, hearts, anything? The only thing I can do for her is to give her her lysine which works pretty well but one missed dose and she starts sneezing.

Oh dear the poor baby! She will always be your baby, my baby boy is a dog who is now 9! I don't have any advice about anything that may help her, as I have never come across this, sorry. I do believe though that getting her onto a balanced diet of the foods a cat is designed to eat would benefit her. Cats IMO should not be fed fruits, veg and grains... they are not designed for it! I would try to find a holistic vet who understands the benefits of feeding raw foods to help guide you with this process.

While I'm not overly familiar with FHV, anything that boosts his immune system is going to help. Now that said- unless he is accepting if new things this will be a process. Sometimes a very long one. We can definitely help you get him there though

Yes anything to help the immune system for sure. I want to switch her but she'll barely eat canned food, let alone raw so I'm not sure what exactly to try. I want to do anything possible for her and our other animals. We recently had Survivor pass tragically..they attempted surgery but before they got past the first few steps they realized it was too late. They said it was probably cancer. It was insane he had no signs up until that day . He was named survivor because we found him as a kitten throw from a car tire (must of been sleeping in it) on a very cold and wet day. He died in our arms and with a lot of rubbing and praying he came back. Never saw the sudden sickness come though. But anyways, a diet change in my animals is my goal so they possibly will live longer and more pain free.

I'd keep on with the lysine while you're transitioning her, if her nose gets stuffy she won't be able to smell the new food as well and that won't help, haha. Transitioning with cats can be slow, try adding some warm water to enhance the smell, and be persistent. I've had success switching my ferrets with chicken baby food first and then slowly adding the raw; chicken baby food STINKS so you have the extra enticement there. Others have done a straight switch from kibble to raw, it just depends on your baby.
I'm sorry to hear about poor Survivor, my condolences on your loss. The stress from losing her friend will make Lucy's herpes flare up too, give it time, she needs to heal too...

Okay, let's do this right here First thing- do NOT let her free feed. You need to schedule some meal times. We do 3 times a day. If she does free feed now, she is going to drive you nuts for about 2 months caterwauling for her kibble. Carbs are indeed addictive. When you set up her meal times, find a canned she is willing to at least try. Offer this first before giving her the kibble. Leave it with her for about 30 minutes. If you like, you can try offering small bits of chicken, or whatever meat you are fixing for supper prior to spicing it. Also, limit kibble amounts. The more canned she eats, the less kibble you give.

Alright this week is going to be a bit busy so my idea is to set up meal times. I'll take their food away in the morning before work and when I get home let them have it for a bit hmm we will see how many eat at that time then I'll take it away again till bed time and give it back for night! Perhaps the second day if they get the idea a bit I'll give them canned food for a meal instead of the kibble. It will be crazy with three cats. Lucy doesn't seem to eat as much as the other two, or well I never catch her eating. The others will follow you around the house if there isn't any kibble. Baby will follow you if the bowl is 1/4th empty! Weirdo lol Baby is pretty old so i'll have to make sure she gets enough I don't want her getting sick! Baby loves the juice from tuna cans. Shes a weird eater though and perfers juice/ liquids over eating the actual meat in the canned foods. Jasman I actually gave a chunk of my ferrets chicken to him and when I came back it was gone. So its possible he ate it?! But he obviously prefers kibble. Both Baby and Jasman however will eat canned. Edit: Forgot to reply to you weezily! I'll keep all that in mind. And no worries she loves her lysine if I don't give it too her she find it and trys to steal the whole bag. As for feeling Survivors loss she was my replacement for him so she has no clue Only Baby has been around and shes a loner so she could care less lol. Jasmine also was found after his death. Just us humans missing him. But its probably been half a year or so now. He is out of pain thats what matters who knows how long he was hiding it But him passing is helping all these other animals
