Ok i JUST posted a thread talking about how my 8 month old ferret was attacked by bees or some sort of bee related thing. I took him to the vet he seems tottaly fine and brought him home, hes eating and drinking, and i JUST noticed that he got some red in the corner of his mouth on one side... I was told if he got hives, was lethargic, swollen, lack of appetite to bring him back. so i just noticed this... I called the vet they said to just keep an eye... I'am just really worried... please any thoughts! Right now i have him in his cage which i never do. but sorry. i need to keep him easily accessible and out of harms way.

ok so im not getting any responses here... so i went on the fb page where i was told to give .08ml of children's benadryl for the pinkness on the side of my ferrets mouth. he was attacked by bees or yellow jackets or whatever, i took him to the ER vet... he seemedto be fine i was told to bring him back if he had a lack of appetite, no energy, or broke out in hives or got swollen. so far that didnt happen and the doctor said it would be unlikely to happen. i came home, he ate and seems to be normal. but then i noticed pinkness on the side of his mouth on one side. this is what he looks like... this is what i gave him.... comments please!

ok... cause someone told me to only use .2 ml of the benadryl but that was AFTER i already gave him .8! so yeah he got that full syringe full of it. i started doing some research and i find the same thing... 1ml per pound... idk how big he is but hes prob 2 or 3 pounds so if what im seeing is right.. then i gave him too much. i just hope he stays ok. i have him in his cage now (which i never do) and hes just sleeping.

And I did respond on your other thread. What did the vet recommend for if he started showing a reaction?

I have moved this thread to the medical board under Emergency. I have also merged the threads as you had at least 4-5 different threads on the same subject. I understand that you are concerned about your baby, but you are not going to increase your feedback by creating so many threads in irrelevant parts of the forum because people won't know where to look for what, and which thread to respond to.
You need to call your vet. Do you have an emergency vet who will see ferrets? At the very least they can give you a benadryl dosage. I think you will be fine but do not give any more and if you see ANY signs of lethargy, respiratory distress (wheezing, panting, trouble breathing, etc), increased itching, etc get to the vet ASAP. It would really be a good idea to go in anyways since your baby is having new symptoms.

You should have been able to, as that isn't disallowed on any of the boards.

Glad he is feeling better The worse situation would have been death within minutes caused by an anaphylactic reaction to the stings. it's really scary to think about but there's nothing that you could have done in that situation. An Emergency injection of epinephrine would have been need and since they don't make ferret epi pens, you wouldn't have been able to get in time. You are definitely lucky he is such a tough little guy! I would be extra cautious about taking him outside now though. Unfortunately with insect stings, Once you have been stung your body starts to build antibodies and you can become more allergic to stings overtime. It's possible the next time he is stung, the reaction could be worse.

So glad he's doing better! And Steph has a point. I would be very cautious with him around wasps or bees, whichever it was.

omg my boy! i mean i knew death but within minutes?! it was a sunday and i had no choice but to go to EMERGENCY VET which was like 40 mins away! OMG! He would have been a dead man... i keep telling him hes my miracle lol I have to give him extra kisses now (which i have been but im going now to kiss him again! LOL)
and yeah im now SUPER paranoid about walking them! i just have been walking my boys a lot since its usually too cold or too hot where i am so spring and fall (now) is when i try to walk them a lot!
obviously ill never go back to that EXACT spot where he got stung. But i dont want to live in fear and never take them out agian... ill just stick to the places that i know are safe.

My cousin is allergic to a particular type of wasp. He literally has 30 minutes from sting to death to get his injection. Now- if he takes benedryl that time lengthens a good bit. Might be an idea to talk to the vet about this and keep children's benedryl on hand, as well as finding out what the dosage would be in case of a bad reaction. When you do write it on the bottle as you will NOT remember in an emergency.
