i think my ferret may have a blockage as he hasnt been pooping properly since yesterday morning (saturday) his been on/off and if he does go its been small amounts, this morning i noticed he still hadnt been pooping so i gave him a pea size amount of vaseline which he took well and still hasnt been much change, his running and playing around still but has a slight cough/sneeze which his had for a while before i noticed he wasnt pooping properly...i wasnt able to take him to the vets today as they're annoyingly closed on sundays!! should i take him first thing tomorrow?? and also should feed him his raw chicken tonight?? or should i give it a miss incase it blocks him even more!??

If he's willing to eat it, go for it. Also- get some pure pumpkin. Not the pie mix, but 100$ pure canned pumpkin. Give one tablespoon pumpkin followed one hour later with one teaspoon vaseline or lax. Alternate this hourly until he has nice big orange goopy stools, or until he starts vomiting. If he throws up AT ALL- this has suddenly become an emergency and he will NOT be able to wait, but will need to see an emergency vet. If that last does come about, insist on a barium xray as a regular one will NOT show a soft blockage up. All the vet will see is a gas build lup. Often the barium itself will be enough to push a smaller blockage all the way through. If it does not he will need surgery immediately.

Sherry meant 100% pure pumpkin. Just don't want you freaking out about spending $100 on pumpkin. hehe Definitely get your baby into the vet ASAP, blockages are NOT something you want to mess around with by waiting any longer than necessary. In the meanwhile, alternate the pumpkin and Vaseline like Sherry said. Food-wise if he wants to eat let him, but don't push it on him. I would offer a soup though as it will help hydrate him and is easier to digest and pass. The extra hydration is important as dehydration can make blockages worse, and significantly increases the risks in surgery. Dehydration can be very dangerous in ferrets. If at any point he begins projectile vomiting take him to an emergency vet ASAP. I would start calling around for 24/7 vets now just in case. At the very, very least they can give him fluids and monitor him even if they don't have a ferret experienced vet. Good luck and please keep us posted. Having been through multiple emergency blockage surgeries I can tell you the sooner you get treatment the better. This is not a fun situation for anyone. Hang in there little fuzz!

How is your ferret? I'd get him to a vet if not pooping properly. These things are an emergency. Ferrets can go downhill fast.

Was the pooped he passed normal size? Did it have any hairballs or foreign objects in it?
It should have been big and orange from the pumpkin.
Skinny or runny poop can still mean there's a floating blockage, especially if no objects came out.
You are right to stop with the vaseline, it can cause nutrient absorption problems if given too long. Keep giving the pumpkin though until you see a nice solid orange poop.
And I am glad your going to the vet. If nothing came out, it might be a good idea to get the barium X-ray done still to be 100% sure. The barium will help push any remaining stuff out as the others had said. And better safe than sorry. Floating blockages can linger for months and cause major problems.
