I have decided since it has been a little while since I have done a raw swtich (Zeke doesn't count, as he took to it right away) I would document my progress. Feel free to comment or ignore me totally! I just think it is kinda fun to see how things went along the way (I still like checking back to my mentor thread when I switched my 3 oldest)

Miya came to live with us yesterday. She is 7 months old and currently on kibble. I made a double batch of chicken soupie and finger fed her after she had been out playing for a few hours. She would only lick it off of my finger if I gently held her in place. She gagged the first couple of times but didn't throw a fit the way Kyra did when I switched her. Today I tried finger feeding her but she barely ate anything (not even a 1/2 tsp by my guess.) I didn't have a lot of time to sit with her as I had to get ready for work. So just before I left I put some kibble in the cage and she ate a bit of that. She is currently on Kaytee ferret food... second ingredient is corn. I can't wait for her to take the soupie at least.

Today I tried feeding Miya some more soupie after she was out for a couple of hours without food. She took some off my finger and then even licked some out of the dish on her own! It was only for maybe 5 seconds or so but Yay! (dance) I was even able to stop holding her when she ate.

Last post of the day: I fed Miya 2 more times tonight and the second last time I fed her I just held her and held the dish and she took some licks. Then right before bed she accepted a bit more with finger feeding. Once in the cage I gave her her kibble back and she sniffed it and walked away! So she obviously wasn't hungry. she seems like a pretty dainty eater. But she ate approx .5 oz today. (She only had kibble when I was away at work so no raw consumed then) Today's weight 1lb 14oz. So far so good!

Well progress is good! I fed Miya this morning and she ate after only one prompt. She never ate much though. Maybe a tsp. I left kibble for when I went to work. I don't know if she ate any. It looked pretty untouched. I think I will give a measured amount of kibble tonight. When I got home I warmed some left over soupie and she ate a little more. Only one prompt again. I was happy because as she ate the phone rang and she stopped. I answered the phone and looked back and she had went back to her soupie and was eating again. I will be doing at least one more feeding. . Probably 2 tonight and will post that progress as well. Ps Thanks for reading sherry and whoever else is interested

Excellent! How old is Miya again? I'm thinking if she is under two you could likely leave the kibble out of cage for up to 12 hours. That would help hasten her switch. When we got Cody he was 9m of age. He was in with Frodo and Emily all day with only raw available. At night he went into his own cage with his kibble.

Oh that is awesome news. She is between 7 and 8 months. I am home today so I will not offer her kibble. Last night she ate close to .5oz. But shortly after she ate I put kibble in her cage and them she started eating that to. I will count how many kibble she did eat. I counted them last night.

Ha. Well she ate all her kibble the little stinker. So I will not offer kibble today. I fed her using only one prompt and she ate maybe about a tsp of her soupie. She was more interested in getting attention this morning. But the fact she is eating from her dish on her own is a huge success so far.

Evening Update: Miya's weight 1lb 15 oz (up 1 oz) Poops: Look pretty normal, on par with my other raw fed ferrets. Formed. Lots of pee! This morning I decided (with Sherry's help) that I will probably not offer kibble, since Miya is eating soupie now. This morning she ate about 1/4 oz (estimate) Then we went shopping together and after I put her new litter box into the cage and she threw the litter around everywhere I had to throw out the remainder of the now "litter soup". I defrosted 2 more ice cubes of soup which are a little more than an oz a piece. I offered her a little more than half (this would equal more than an oz) and she came over to the dish. She lazily layed beside it and looked at me Stinker wanted to be fed! I offered one finger lick and then she got started on her own. She will sniff it but it is like she can't decide if the smell is good enough to try. She ate about half of the dish. So close about 1/2 an oz. So far today she has consumed about .75 oz of thin soupie. I will make sure she tries it again tonight (prompt her before she sleeps) and will leave soupie in the cage overnight. I will be adding slivers very soon. Likely after I can see that she is taking the initiative to eat all on her own with no prompts. I think that will happen in the next day or so. Ps. It may appear that I am not being very diligent with weighing foods and such. I was with my first 3 switches but now I feel confident enough to just eyeball it. I would obviously weigh the food if I was concerned. But I can see that Miya is eating fairly well.

Last update for the day. Miya ate almost all of the 1+oz from the day. There was maybe about a tsp left. I fed her for the evening and gave her her one prompt and she ate again. I would say she consumed between 1.25 and 1.5 oz today. she's doing so well!

I look forward to it!! She feels so slim and frail I want her to bulk up. I think she would be a good 2lb 4ish oz. My kyra is super small bit she feels more substantial than this little girl.
