Well, good news! Hermes is hooked on turkey necks!! Who knew. He rejected them about a month ago, and he's almost begging for them. I'll go out on the limb and say that he likes them better than wing tips!! Actually, it's prolly because there's more bones to chomp on. He loves to eat bones (dance)
I'm beginning to wonder if Merlin may have some kind of a problem with his jaw. He sniffs, and licks the bones/meat that Hermes gets, almost as if he wants to eat them, but he always goes back to his raw grinds. There are some pretty small sized chunks of bone (occasionally) in the NV raw grinds, and he turns his head sideways to chew them, and it's like he is having trouble. I can't see anything, and don't really know what to look for, but for some reason, I'm beginning to wonder why he "can't" move on to bone. Just a thought.

that could very well be the case and i am hearing of more and more ferrets with this problem. Sonny is one of them but only on one side of his jaw. not sure if an injury or what. as long as he eats the bone from the raw grinds and you brush his teeth that is fine. you can continue to feed him raw grinds with bone in them as long as you brush teeth.
awesome that hermes likes turkey necks! you can use those as a bone-in meal. also try chicken necks.

I stand in the kitchen while they eat, and I notice that he is turning his head to the side more and more when eating the raw grinds. I wanna get some turkey thighs tomorrow and try him back on raw meats and maybe give him just some tiny bones from chicken wings and see what he does. I really hope he doesn't have a problem. Hate to think he's a little Sh**, but hey, they are, after all, KIDS!!!! Hermes has trouble with turkey necks again, and this may be why he didn't want them before. He keeps getting the middle of the bone where the hole is, stuck on his molars. Actually, it might just be soft bone crushed up together. I can't really tell because when I pull it off his toofie, there is a hole there!! Anyway, I have to pull it off, then he eats the entire thing. I noticed that the meat is gone from the bone, and just the bone material is left. I have tried so hard to cut the whole bone into small pieces, but it still happens. ERRR Have a nice weekend

They seem to be softer bones (neck bones).

Merlin is still having bowel issues. He has liquid diarrhea again, so I'm gonna call the vet. I have never had one have diarrhea this long. I am beginning to worry. He is eating, drinking, playing, seems fine, just that darned diarrhea.

Is he eating enough ground bone or other calcium? Feed only one protein for like 4 days. Keep a log and see whether this iz triggered by chicken or some other meat.

Merlin is on day 5 of pork only. It's very lean sliced pork, and I'm telling ya, it looks pretty delish! Nice pale pink with no real fat. Yum Yum.
His poops have gone from liquid to soft pudding if you will. Little form to it, but not runny, thank goodness. I have continued putting a little more eggshell in his meat, not sure if that's why they've "firmed up" or not. Still stinks to high heaven. Just nasty. I think I'll give him this week and see how it is next Monday. Maybe go to vet after all.

So adding more eggshell to the meat has firmed up his poop?

Well, as we know, Merlin has a blockage, and it does appear to be a floating blockage dr Hart does not do surgery. we will go back tomorrow for more xrays at the surgeon's request. she wants to see a side view of Merlin's stomach. she indicates it is operable and that is probably the route we will be taking.

That would explain his issues and why he has been so picky and hard to switch. I hope they remove it.

Merlin's "mass" was nothing more than food which had become immovable because of spasms in his stomach. Upon returning Tuesday for additional Xrays, it showed the mass had moved through the intestines. Dr. Hart put him on Reglan (.10 ml 2 x day). His poop improved. He has not slowed down his activity or eating except on Sunday night when he was so very sick with vomiting and diarrhea.
Wednesday, his diarrhea progressed to water, and Dr. Hart Rxd flagyl to help. He has been eating better than Hermes in volume, and today I ran out of meat and gave them S&C Duck Duck Goose which I reconstituted. They loved it contrary to past experiences.
We are already at the weekend again. I hope he does ok.

Merlin is doing much better. He is still on Reglan and Flagyl. Although his stomach continues to be better, he does have some looser bowels from time to time. He is eating like a horse, which is good.
I need to have them both checked for heartworms. For some reason I am freaking about them having heartworms. They each picked up a flea or two while at the vet. I need to make sure they are heartworm free before treating for fleas. Any suggestions regarding what to do holistically for fleas is appreciated. Agree
Merlin continues to cough and choke on food. Yesterday, while eating I heart him making a noise like he was gulping. I bought a medium sized flat plate to feed them on. Well, that didn't work at all. Merlin walks in the juice and steps on the meat. I had read that helps slow them down. Not so much my boys (disagree)

Geez. Easiest way to get them to slow down eating is to get them eating muscle meat chunks and bone bc they have to work harder to eat! Unfortunately, Merlin is our little problem stubborn child. Glad to hear his poops are looking a little better.
