just leave the food in there for him then. don't worry it won't go bad. you keep the a/c on. plus if it goes bad they won't eat it. i guess he prefers the fresh stuff. i don't blame Merlin. you can just continue to leave it in their bowls in dry form. if he wants it he'll have it i suppose. those are good to have in case you have a hurricane and lose power.

Project for you this week:
For the next week write down what your ferrets have eaten for their two meals a day. Indicate whether there was bone in it.

Sorry, I have been so busy at work prepping for a Trial on Friday, that I haven't posted much. I can tell you that neither boy would eat any raw meat beginning on Monday of this week (6/3/13) nor any day after until this morning. I have been worried as I have indicated in PM. I think I have figured out what the problem was. I always put a tiny bit of water and dribble oil over the meat for them. They have been licking the oil and water off the meat and not touching it.
This morning, I gave them only meat and wing tips cut up, no water, no oil. They ate every bit of it and even licked the bowl clean.
Also, I started mixing the Stella & Chewy's Beef with the Stella & Chewy's Duck Duck Goose, and they have been hoodwinked into eating it too! Two major accomplishments this week!!
I will weigh them tonight and post tomorrow. Been having trouble getting my messages to post here (headwall)

OK, still having problems posting!!! Threw me out, then said error, possible forgery, go back and refresh!! What in the world? Breakfast Thursday: Chicken and chicken wing tips with bone (Hermes ate all) I got one piece of chicken into Merlin, but he's not eating raw this week, only Stella & Chewy's FDR Duck and Beef. Dinner Thursday: Chicken and chicken wing tips with bone (Hermes ate all, Merlin nothing) Breakfast Friday: Chicken, turkey and wing tips (Hermes loves the bone) Merlin ate nothing. I offered him chicken broth, but he's not interested. He did eat some Stella & Chewy's Duck and Beef when I put them in the cage as I left for work. He loves it. NOTE: MERLIN IS SICK, WE HAVE A VET APPT. TODAY (6/7/13) AT 5PM I suspect an URI, he is exhibiting coughing, sneezing and sounds congested. * I will report their weights and the results of our visit with Dr. Hart tomorrow as I don't have computer at home, only Android, and I STILL can't log into it even though I bought the app. Could someone check into this please? It's been almost 2 months. Thanks (bounce)

oh poor Merlin! i hope he didn't catch your cold! you have had an awful time kicking that bad cold. how have you been feeling? run the hot shower and steam up the bathroom. then sit in the shower with him for a little while. see if that helps. i am sure the vet will give you antibiotics. is he having any clear discharge from his nose? remember: if you see yellow or green mucous coming out of his nose that is an emergency trip to the vets!

I consider Stella & chewys to be bone-in meat because it has ground bone. and as long as he is eating something and stays well hydrated that is all that matters to me. he may be feeling too under the weather to chew on meat or bone right now. so go ahead and make him the pureed raw mush that you started them with. that will keep him hydrated. do the same thing as before if he is stubborn, hold him on your lap to get him to eat it. that has usually always worked on my sick ferrets when they did not want to eat.

I have posted two messages here, one about Merlin's vet visit on Friday, June 7, 2013, and one about what they ate, their daily meal. Neither one is here now. What happened? Ok, here we go AGAIN Merlin was fine at the vet. Vet suspected an allergy, and directed 1 ml baby benadryl 2 times daily. He also gave me Septra in case Merlin got worse. He seems much better, and I haven't started Septra yet. Merlin weighed 2.6 lbs. Hermes 3.1 lbs. Friday morning: Chicken wing tips and chicken meat for Hermes Merlin: nothing (S&C Beef in cage) Friday evening: Chicken wing tips for Hermes Merlin: nothing (S&C Beef in cage) Saturday morning: Chicken meat w/organs for Hermes Merlin: S&C DDG in cage only Saturday evening: Angus beef and pork (wing tips too) for Hermes Merlin S&C in cage only Sunday morning: Pork meat for Hermes Merlin: S&C DDG in cage only Sunday evening: Turkey and pork (w/wing tips)Hermes Merlin: S&C Lamb in cage only Monday morning: Chicken and pork for Hermes Merlin: S&C Beef and DDG in cage only Monday night: Chicken and wing tips Hermes Merlin: Chicken, turkey heart, liver mush -- HE HATE ALOT with help from Mommy!!!! Tuesday evening meal: Turkey for Hermes, he didn't eat it all (1/8 cup) Merlin ate his mush again, not as much, but still ate it Wednesday morning meal: Chicken and pork for Hermes, he ate about 2 TBS. Wednesday evening meal: Chicken wing tips for Hermes, he ate it all. Merlin ate all of his mush soup, and asked for more!!!! Thursday morning meal: Chicken and turkey meat for Hermes, he ate it all. Merlin ate all of his mush soup. Funny, Merlin still goes over to Hermes' wing tips or meat chunks and smells it, but won't eat it. Now this is weird...Hermes will look up at Merlin while eating and Merlin will lick Hermes mouth and Hermes lets him, like a mother bird feeding her baby!!! Ever see that?

Awww. So cute. Are you trying to increase stubborn Merlin into slivers again? Your menu sounds good (with the exception of stubborn merlin not eating anything but freeze dried all those days) You are sticking to menu right? 9 bone in meals a week? For stubborn Merlin (for now) bone in meat meals can be the freeze dried with bone in it or any other raw grind with bone or eggshell

Yes, I encourage stubborn Merlin constantly. Like I've mentioned before the crazy little dood goes over to Hermes bowl of chicken wing tips and licks, but won't eat it, and sometimes he just smells it. I will take one, pick him up, kiss him and tell him what a good boy he is, then offer the wing and nuthin' doin!! I rub it on his gums, I'll even put a tiny sliver of meat into his mouth while I'm holding him, and when I put him down, out comes the meat. (headwall) We're doing good with the mush soup. And, I'm adding slivers quicker than before because I know he remembers what they are, and I'm hoping one day, he'll pick it up again!! Yes, bones, bones and more bones. Hermes is so happy with the chicken wings, so I add other meats with it so that he will get a variety, but I think he'd eat chicken wings every day!! Me too, but fry mine please Thanks again. I'm really glad I did this. I just wish others would realize it may be more work, but it's gratifying work because it's for your babies. Maybe other owners just don't feel the same way. Who knows.
