I found a perfect video that shows ferret "laughter". Over the years many people have been concerned when they've heard this the first time or two, afraid of respiratory issues. However, this is actually how a ferret appears to laugh when they are REALLY excited and enjoying themselves

That's interesting. It sounds like hissing to me but the ferret certainly looks like he's laughing. I think Jester may do this as there have been a couple of times that he has been playing with one of the others and I've thought why are you hissing? I just thought he was confused and hissed when he should be dooking!

I love that video and have most definitely heard mine laugh. And when I was listening to the video, Mika walked across the keyboard and stopped and just listened. Then she started sniffing the computer and looking for the happy ferret!

I love it....that's Minion when he and Atreyu are playing. I actually heard him dook the other day but it wasn't one of those happy dooks...it was a "I'm hunting you dook". He was looking for Lady Natasha after she jumped on him from behind and thumped his head off the floor. Being blind he didn't take to that too well and she wonders why he hates her and beats her up when he finds her * Don't feel sorry for him though....he usually hunts her after she's gone to sleep, she's deaf, so can't hear him coming. She weighs 1 lbs. He weighs 5 lbs 2 oz. Ferrets can be such nasty little creatures to each other. ciao

Gwin does this during all of our playtimes - more than dooking lately. He especially does it when he's trying to chase me down

River did this when I picked her up after her playtime this morning! She was bouncing all over the room and chasing the cat. She made a harsh squawking kind of sound a couple times while playing, not like a scream, but not dooking from what I can tell. The squawk came after the cat chased her across the room, then back off. She went, "Aack!" and sideways-hopped after him.
When she was huffing, she was giving me kisses and trying to get inside my shirt.

They will also "bark", a sharp sudden one off sound when they are startled. It actually sounds rather funny coming from them

I think the squawk was a bark. River's also been squeaking when she's running around. AND, I heard dooking! She's a busy little character.
