Hi all,
Just waiting for my account to be approved. I have had many ferrets in the past, but I moved across the country a while back and was unable to get any more until now. But the good news is that now I have three adorable fuzzbutts!
I currently have 3 6-8 month olds, one boy and two girls. Two of them are cream-colored sables and the other is albino. We just brought them home today. I really wanted to wait until I got my FN cage, but these guys were up for adoption and I didn't want to take the chance that they would be snatched up before the end of the week.
We bought a "temporary" cage for them while we wait for our Ferret Nation which comes on Thursday (2 days). To put it mildly, this cage is a piece of crap. They can barely climb up the plastic ladders, there is barely enough room for their litter box on the ground floor, the doors don't latch to "ferret standards" so I have to put mini padlocks on them... I could go on and on about this thing.
Even so I'm not too worried about their safety, I know that the cage will be OK for two days and they have plenty of soft beds, toys, food and water. I just worry about them getting adjusted and being comfortable. New environment, new people, new diet (kibble right now, but hoping to eventually get to a comfortable half raw/half kibble stage before considering full raw), aaaaand a crappy cage.
Anyway this is more a rant than anything. I'm just upset I have to keep them in this junk for a couple days. Sorry to put this on you guys, just gotta get it out.
Oh! Actually I just thought of something. One of my ferts has thrown up once. I think it might just be stress/excitement but since they're so new I worry. The one that puked and the albino keep messing around in the litter (Swheat Scoop) and maybe it's possible that it's getting up their nose/throat and irritating them? The albino one is also cage raging a little bit. We ran them around for a couple hours before putting them away (had to let the dog out for a bit - they haven't been properly introduced yet), but they're still going strong! Any thoughts on that?
I haven't really disciplined them much over the litter stuff because they're already stressed and this isn't even their permanent cage, but I will once they get into the FN.
Ok, seriously.. stopping now. (headwall)
It's just so EXCITING! I haven't had my ferrets in such a long time that I feel like a brand new owner.
