I just found a flea on my ferret. I just found one and managed to get it out while I bathed him using a regular ferret shampoo. I haven't found any other ones on him, nor any marks after. Before, I did see brown marks on his lower back and underbelly.
I found out too late at time (11:15 PM) to do a thorough cleaning, so I'll be doing it tomorrow. So far, I have cleaned my ferret's cage with anti bacterial spray and changed all of his hammocks.
I am very new to all the fleas and such... No experience what so ever, so I have no idea what to do. :( I'm freaking out at the moment and have no idea what to do. Ever since I found that flea (I knew it was a flea because it jumped when I grabbed it with tissue off his fur), my ferret has been itching more often now. I can't find Revolution or Frontline anywhere in my local pet stores (So frustrating!)
Is there any other option that I can use to get rid of the fleas from my ferret? Like maybe dishwash soap maybe? I feel horrible for this little guy...
Please help!

Oh, and also to add... His skin looks fine. I took him out on Sunday and found a flea on him today. My two friends whom I met with my ferret do not have pets so I'm assuming he got it from outside. He is itching though... Poor baby.

Vacuum, vacuum, vacuum. Change the bedding daily. When you wash your ferret make a soapy ring just behind the ears and shampoo/comb.

It will happen from time to time. The first time that I found a flea on Ponce, we had just had a carpenter come do some work, and he had alot of dogs. And there was only one flea. There was only two other times, over seven years, that we again found just one flea. I bought a flea comb and every time that Ponce got extra scratchy, I would run the comb over him. The vet said buy a kitten flea med (i got it at the vet office) and put just half of it, on him between his shoulder blades. And always check the anal area, they can hide there. I hate fleas and like you, feed all itchy and icky afterwards.
