Hey all, I just walked in the door from a ten day vacation to Spain and my roommates had been watching my three ferrets. I immediately noticed that my 2 year old male ferret Gatsby has patchy hair loss on his hind legs and belly- but none on his tail, front legs, head or neck. When I left his hair was fluffy and thick. What could have happened while I was gone? My roommates say they followed all of my directions. Could this possibly be stress related or regular shedding? Can the adrenal onset be this quick- I havent seen any other signs before this. Going to the vet tomorow but need your opinions I AM FREAKING OUT

Oh goodness, Spain, you lucky girl. Not so lucky mom. No ideas to help Gatsby (I love his name), someone else will weigh in soon, I'm sure.

Can you take a pic of it? It could be stress grooming but honestly I would be taking him to the vet to make sure there wasn't another issue going on. ciao

Good news! I took Gatsby to the vet yesterday and he said that the hair loss pattern wasnt indicative for adrenal and he was sure it was due to our recent flea problem and that Gatsby is just more sensitive/allergic to flea bites. So he gave me capstar pills to give 1/2 to each ferret for the next few days and 0.2ml doses of revolution to put on them. I also got stuff to spray down the house with. I thought we completely eradicated the fleas like three weeks ago but we found one yesterday so they are definitely resilient. I am just glad its not adrenal and hope I can kill these awful fleas for good! Thanks everyone!

Glad he's not adrenal. My Noodles, some years back, had a flea allergy (which I discovered when some came in when I got Woozle, I'd just thought Woozle was being an annoying kit and causing the bite marks and fur loss). I tried everything to get rid of them (eventually had to clear everyone out for a day and bomb the place). Fleas will leave eggs and if you don't get the eggs they just resurface a few weeks later, so treat everything!

Some are definitely more allergic than others! Fingers crossed you've found the simple solution

Fleas run on a 2 week cycle. Knowing this is half your battle. So keeping up the extensive cleaning is often necessary for a month before you actually beat the infestation ciao
