I ended up putting 8 marshall's deluxe playpens together.
I split it into 2 halves. for the 2 playgroups
They do not throw a fit to be let out anymore.
They stay content for about 45 mins to an hour then they get board. If I put toys and hideouts in the playpens they seem to be quite content outside.

Reading this post makes me want to go home and play with my babies!! We let them out of their cage for about 3-6 hours a day, it really depends on when we get home from work. We let them roam the house but we play with them as well. They didn't like playing with us too much at first but I'm sure they just needed to get used to us. Marly was a little standoffish at first but now her tail gets all bushy when she sees me and she presses up against my hand when I scratch her. As for Zen he has always been more loving and always climbs into bed with me. They melt my heart. . As for my husband in the beginning he was neutral about getting them, he was doing it more for me, but like I knew he would he is absolutely obsessed with them now! He even randomly texts me at work telling me he just wants to go home and play with them! As for my son, they love being in his room. He will be in there playing his video games and they just stroll in and lay on his bed while he plays. He loves when they are out roaming and loves helping me taking care of them. I can honestly say that they have brought so much love into our home

I would suggest having a ferret babysitter when you can't be around your ferret. Sometimes, you may be able to take the ferret out with you, depending on where it is.

I've had too many problems trying to find a sitter who's ferret knowledgeable and who follows feeding instructions. How I'd love to go on a vacation, but I'm a slave to the fuzzies.

Just wondered how you guys who are in school and working manage your time? Time and money are two things that have kept us from getting ferrets. I just wondered how you guys in school do it? Thanks! ~K

I had ferrets while in university, and now during work. They are fine during the day when we're not home. Free roam in a ferret proof home, lots of distractions and toys and 4 fuzzies to keep each other company most of the time they will sleep anyway until you come back. Just need to deal with the missed-litterbox poopies when you get back and spend some time with them before work if they are awake and surely after work before sleep

Mine were free roam in their own room, so I didn't worry about them being cooped up in a cage all day. I became a penney pincher so I could feed them a raw diet and save for any future vet bills. I never ate out, I only bought fruits and vegetables and pasta that was on sale, I rarely went out with friends... But the ferrets were first priority. I also made my own hair conditioner, laundry soap, all natural cleaners to save money. I basically became a pioneer woman.

The vet bills thing scares me too but that's just a matter of saving as much as possible (which we do already but still) Thanks! ~K

Thanks! ~K Our girls free roam in a bed room, loads of places to cuddle in, boxes filled with newspaper or plastic bags and tunnels, though to be fair, neither my sister or i work much or go out much to start with.

I'd love to have the ferrets be free roam! We just moved in to our place so it wouldn't be a big deal to set the bedroom up as ferret friendly (we haven't had time to accumulate much clutter ) I'm trying to get in touch with a local rescue to ask about fostering, we'd love to do that but I'm not sure if they would let first time ferret parents be fosters (understandably because we don't have much experience yet) Thanks for the reply! ~K

I have a similar situation! Full time student, full and part time employee. I come home on my lunch breaks to let my furries run and play!
