At 11:50 this morning Bandit crossed the Rainbow Bridge. He was only 2.5 years old.
He fought a long, hard battle against lymphoma, adrenal and semi-paralysis in his hind legs. We were told in February 2012, when he had just turned a year old, that he had a very aggressive adenocarcinoma and had 2-3 weeks to live. It's due to his fighting spirit that God blessed us with another year and a half. His fight was such that he was eating and drinking voraciously until the end. He had a lot of moments that he was alert and wanted to play. That's when the decision becomes so agonizing. But the pain was getting the best of him and we knew we had to help him cross.
Bandit was our first ferret, when I knew nothing about them and didn't even want to touch them. I bought him for my daughter after a week of begging. She kept telling me that he was her "soul ferret." and he definitely was. After a week I was totally smitten. Bandit just had this regal aura about him, even the other fuzzies knew, almost bowing down to him. The only reason our family is full of ferrets, and the reason I now work with a ferret rescue, is ALL due to Bandit. I really don't think there are any words to describe how special he really is. He definitely leaves behind a legacy.
Our hearts are so broken. I know time will heal it some, but when it's your first, and still so young, it's a bitter pill to swallow.
Dook In Peace now, Big Man. You will now forever war dance. We miss you so very much already.
