Hi everyone! I was recently considering feeding my ferret cat food as I was not satisfied with any of the ferret foods that I have tried. The brands I have tried are: Zupreem Grain-Free Diet, ZuPreem Premium, 8 in 1 Ultra Blend Select, 8 in 1 Ultimate, and another brand that I forgot. None of them had satisfied me and majority resulted in unhealthy poop (Such as seeded, etc). What brands of cat foods have you guys been successful with? I was thinking of feeding mine GO! FIT + FREE Grain Free Chicken, Turkey + Duck Recipe. Here is the link: www.petcurean.com/for-cats/go/fit-and-free-grain-free-chicken-turkey-duckWhat do you guys think?

If looking into kibble a good option may be Wysong Epigen 90. If your able to, I would always suggest a raw diet. Good luck!

Only two I feel semi safe suggesting are Epigen 90 or Orijen cat/kitten. To be honest I've not fed kibbles in a few years.

One thing about that chart- Evo has had a number of recalls in the last few months.

Yeah, not sure how often it is updated. I thought I heard the company had been sold to another company too.

Wysong Epigen 90 is by far the best, followed by Orijen. Go Fit is my third choice, I used to use it a year or so ago and it was good. They did change their formula back then to lower the quality a small tad, so that is my only reservation with petcurean, that they may continue to cut costs in the future.

At the rescue we mix wysong ferret epigen 90, orijen 80/20 fish/poultry, and wellness core original. All are grain free, have 40+% protein and 18+% fat. We don't have problems switching rescues to this or nearly as many digestive problems as many shelters report having. Other ferrets go straight to raw. It all depends on the particular ferret weget as to what they will eat.

Raw is best, but Orijen is fantastic and easy to come by. As already stated, Wysong Epigen-90 is better. It's a good idea when feeding kibble to feed at least two different brands. More than that is better. The reason is that if you only feed one brand, and it's out of stock or otherwise unavailable, there is a high chance that your ferret will refuse anything new. If you have two or more brands that they're used to, you can just use that other brand that you know they like. Wysong, Orijen, and Go! would be a great mix if you have to feed kibble.
Also, keep some emergency kibble in the freezer if you can. But don't rely on that to save you if you can't find one brand in the store. On rare occasions, especially with recalls, you could be months without their food.
That happened to me...I had emergency food and I fed three different foods (Evo, Wysong Epigen-90 and Archetypal-1). All three were unavailable to be within one month (and still are). I ran out of emergency food and had to switch to Orijen cold turkey. Kyle gave me quite the scare because he's the pickiest brat you'll ever meet and I thought he was going to starve to death. It took about two days for me to get him to eat the Orijen. That was the push I needed to finally decide to make the switch to raw. I don't ever want to go through the worry of not having his food available.

Thank you for all the advice and recommendations! Unfortunately, Wysong Epigen-90 and Orijen are both unavailable in the city that I live in (It's very small). The only brands that I am able to get access to is Go!.

If you're in the States, it's very simple to order online. There are many companies that offer cheap shipping and with some, you can even set it up so that it ships automatically when you need it.

Go online to Dr.Foster and Smith. They have a couple different kibbles you can have sent to your house. Prices aren't that bad either. Goodluck,

Go fit and free is an acceptable kibble. However you can't just feed a single kibble. What if the store stops carrying it? What if it gets recalled? What if your ferret stops eating it? You need AT LEAST 2 kibbles, 3 is better, 4 or more is ideal.
If you absolutely cannot order wysong epigen 90 or Orijen. Here are a few other acceptable ones:
-Wellness CORE (the other wellness kibbles are not acceptable) -Blue Wilderness Duck or Chicken or Kitten (has more fat which is good) - this is made by Blue Buffalo. I am not sure if the other Blue Buffalo foods are acceptable or not, you would need to check the ingredients.
Evo cat food is acceptable too (it's the same ingredients as the ferret) but as the others mentioned they have had crazy recalls lately and the new owner of it is not a good company.
Notice how I said "acceptable" kibble though. No kibble is a good diet for ferrets. If you are not willing to feed raw meat/bone/organ, or the commercial raw patties you can buy, if you can find Freeze-dried food this is a great option. Some brands include Stella and Chewey's, Ziwipeak, and there's more out there too.

Blue Wilderness Duck and Kitten are two I switched away from, honestly I didn't like the results I got while feeding these kibbles and on top of that the ferrets didn't tend to eat them very readily. I switched because they contain sweet potatoes and my daughter is allergic to sweet potatoes and became so allergic just having it in the house was causing her to react. I am glad I did for the ferrets also though, they smell better, their poop doesn't smell as bad, their fur looks better, and they eat their food with more gusto than before. I guess if blue wilderness foods are all you can get they are a lot better than some other but for me personally I wouldn't recommend them. And they are expensive, at least in my area very expensive.

I do agree, blue wilderness is not at the top of the list. Again, Orijen and wysong epigen are the only kibbles that are truly okay (okay as a kibble can get).
