Hi, McKenna has asked me to pop in here about your Pedro. That is the major reason my vet refuses to do the Tenn. panel for adrenal disease. It only tests for the most common 5 or 6 out of a possible 26 hourmones. So it can have a lot of false negatives. Personally I would still do a 3 month lupron trial for adrenal to see if this clears up. He is also going to need prednisolone to manage his insulinoma. Out of curiosity have you calibrated your machine with your vet's? Human ones can be off by as much as 20 points.

the vet didn't use a blood machine. she used actual labs. I am going to be getting a new machine just for him today. each machine I know is different so I will be using the same one all the time, there fore will have consistent values. also I was wrong about his age at surgery he would have been 1 year 9 months. which would make him about 3 now. I've always thought he"acted" older then his adding from teeth. I also think whoever had him feed him lots of people food. he is my only ferret who will beg or eat people food if not watched closely.

it's swollen man parts part of adrenal? kidneys are normal size, prostate it's normal size, no hair loss. not sure what else I should be liking for for adrenal

About the only thing you can do is a lupron trial for 3 months. If he's NOT adrenal it won't affect him at all. If behaviour etc starts clearing up or easing off it's definite. And with that bg reading he definitely needs to be on prednisolone.

Weekly Update:
Buddy 3 lb, no change Toro 2 lb 10 oz, gained 4 oz Pedro 2 lb 6 oz, gained 4 oz Penny 2.0, no change
menu is the same. I already premade food last week for this week in 6 oz containers, so I picked up some extra chicken wings and will be adding 4 oz to each meal to increase total size to 10 oz each meal.
I also made more raw soup, we are going to serve 1 cube to pedro am and pm with meds. Other then Pedro blood sugar and swollen man parts everyones activity poo and pee has been normal. As soon as I hear from the vet tomorrow I will update with what they say.
Thanks again for your help

What did they say about a swollen penis? Or has the vet seen that yet? Sorry didn't read all the way through.

yes they have. that is why I brought him in. I thought he had a kidney or bladder infection. he had been on antibiotics for11 days. he was also on pain meds for 7 days. since it didn't clear up she is thinking adrenal. but that is the only sign. when we were drawing blood for that we found the insuloma.

Okay, hopefully once the adrenal and insu are treated then he will feel better, poor lad.

nothing new to update yet. started meds last night. been taking Pedro blood sugar 3-5 times a day. feeding raw soup before meds. blood sugars are still all over the place. but he did make it up to 79 tonight before soup and meds. everyone is still eating well. activity is normal for my group. we are going thru coat change now. I will try to update every couple of days even if nothing changes. oh and tonight when I got them up all four were together again. the other 3 had not been sleeping with Pedro for a couple weeks. :-)

Any particular reason for taking it that often? Generally you would only do it if you think he's low, and at his check ups.

I believe she's just trying to get a base "stat" for her meter? See what his ranges are in case her readings don't line up with the vet's.

trying to get an idea of where he is. once we get him stable I was told to take it 1-2 times a week. or if he is having a crash. since he just started meds I want to make sure it's the correct dose and as low as possible. I don't like pred for long term but I know he needs it. just to many side effects

Pedro is doing better. last week I made extra chicken wing tips but it was just left, so back to 6 oz meals. I have not changed the menu, but am concerned with Pedro since he was the hardest switch and he's now getting soup cubes twice a day with his meds how that changes his balance. I only added liver kidney heart and chicken thighs. should I order bone meal to add?
weekly weights buddy 2lb 12oz lost 2oz toro 2lb 8oz. lost 2oz pedro 2lb 4oz. lost 2 oz penny 2lb, no change
I feel I'm ready to graduate now. I have Pedro under control. everyone is eating large chunks and bones. still have to grind hearts and organs and sometimes spoon feed but I feel like I know what I'm doing.
btw, we added a new member to our house. baby boy 7 months. have yet to be named. He's been eating soup by himself. I added one chicken wing tip he had not touched yet. he is in quarantine for the next month and will be a " long term" foster
