Wedgewood pharmacy (online compounding pharmacy) has flutamide and finasteride. They mix meds for ferrets. But if your vet writes you a script for finasteride to the human pharmacy you can get the pills right away. Dissolve the 5 mg tablet on 1 cc of water and give .5 ml in the am and .5 pm. don't handle those pills without gloves if you are pregnant.

Thank you so much for the help, unfortunately I cannot get out of work today. The local vet said she would be more aggressive trying to cath him if I cannot get down there since it is pretty much do that or put him down, I don't even want to think about that but I just don't know what my other options are, I can't get off until 4:30 and my vet closes at 6 so we can't make it there with the drive, this vet doesn't really have emergency care for overnights and they can't keep doing needle removal until tomorrow they said. He's still pretty young and very healthy besides this so I hate to even consider putting him to sleep but if I can't help him that's all I can do.

I went through a similar situation with one of my former ferrets, but it was near the start of his adrenal journey and only happened once. After an emergency vet visit to have his bladder aspirated, we had his Lupron dose overnighted to my regular vet and that kept his prostate in check from then on. It was a horrible experience... his little nose and paw pads were bright red from him straining to urinate, and he kept hopping in and out of the litterbox and crying the whole hour drive to the emergency vet. I really hope that the Des works for Pip and neither of you have to go through this again!

Well basically right now we are waiting to hear from the local vet, if they could get the cath in, I will bring him down to Duluth in the morning and do an adrenalectomy, probably implant him with Des as well. If they have not been able to get the cath in, then he is screwed. In that case I think I will have the vet drain him one more time, bring him home for a little bit to say goodbyes and have him put to sleep. I gave the vet that info on the meds, but pretty much had to drop him off and head to work so I don't know what's been done. Work has been awful, I keep breaking down just thinking about him.

Lol, I know right! He's home, he peed a tiny bit in the litter pan for me, I stuck him back with the crew for a little bit so he can run around and get some energy out, I guess the vets were playing with him and gave him the mice I'd brought for him. And this folks is how your "free" ferret turns into a $2000 ferret in two years.

We'll be leaving in the morning pretty much as soon as James gets off work, she wants to do surgery as early as possible so we can bring him home, do the adrenal surgery, check for prostate cysts and possibly put in a temp. catheter but we'll see how it goes.
Couple of questions, is raw ok since he probably has an infection (cloudy urine and all this poking and prodding) and for recovering after surgery? I had tried giving him canned cat food yesterday and he wouldn't touch it, but attacked the chicken hearts and ate a mouse today.
Should I have him implanted with the des anyways? I'm really hoping his won't reoccur but obviously there's a chance it might, or that it's right side which my vet doesn't remove. Or at least she wasn't comfortable doing it last time I had one done which was 5 or so years ago. One of the reasons I don't really go for surgery anymore but seems like the only fast way to resolve this.
