Hi Saleena! My name is Cherie. I will also be popping in from time to time so you won't miss a beat in your switch. I haven't read through your whole thread yet, but for now, if you are trying to get them started on veal, do like a little mini switch. Little tiny bits or slivers hidden in the chicken should do the trick. Odds are they won't notice it in there, but if they do, reduce the number of slivers so you don't change the taste of the chicken. I was up late last night so I'm going to take a little nap, but I'll check back in later on and read through your whole switch. Poor Katt is so busy these days, but between us we will keep working on getting your fuzzies switched!

Hello again!
I just read through your thread. It sounds like you are in the final stages of the switch. 1) trying to introduce new proteins and 2) increasing bone sizes.
Can you tell me how each one of these are doing now? How has the bone eating been going and how is the veal going over with your bunch? Are poos still doing good?

HELLO! soooo sorry once again running around with my head cut off ugh lol
Were doing okay with minced veal, going to try beef chunks instead of hamburg starting sunday, teeny wincy little slivers mixed with whatever I figure out for sundays breakfast lunch and dinner, otherwise there eating
chicken - breast, legs, and neck
turkey- breast and minced
pork - muscle meat , and minced
Im having a rough time finding bone in meats that aren't chicken, im still supplementing with eggshell powder but have held of the past 2 days because there poops are like hard and grainy but normal color and size, no more runs thank god.
There all getting shaggy lol, even bubby whos normally wirey there more playful these days too they run and jump at us hahaha
im sending an order to haretoday on Monday for:
1 x Rabbit Chunks [small pieces], 3 lbs 1 x Pork Trim, 5 lbs 1 x Beef Kidney, 2 lb 1 x Beef Lung, 2 lbs 1 x Rabbit Organs, 2 lb 1 x Duck Pieces 3 lbs 1 x Ground Rabbit, Whole Carcass- Fur and All, 1 lb 1 x Ground Chicken Feet, 1 lb 1 x Chicken Necks, 2 lbs
Is there some things I should add? I can get chicken organs and heart at a local butcher, but bone-in meats I can only find chicken, turkey, and necks is that enough or do they need more variety? Im still working on a menu, im trying to figure out what days and when to give organs and bone and such gonna have to check out some other threads. Ill do a full pic and weight update tomorrow, with a rough draft of a menu

Hi Saleena!
Sounds like you are well on your way. Have you tried cornish game hens for bone in meats? That is one of the staples I use each week. They can eat the entire bird and it's made up mostly of bone in meats except the breast has a bit more muscle on it. And those you can usually get at the grocery store in the frozen meats section. Not sure if you can get your hands on quail, but that is also a good source of bone-in meat. They can eat the entire chicken, but they will not eat those bigger bones. Get a whole chicken and butcher it up. Separate out the thick muscle parts of the breast for your muscle only meals. The chicken spine and ribs are great and the ferrets love them. Butcher up cornish hens the same way.
when you see the really hard poos, they need a meal or two of just muscle meat. I've found that for my bunch 2 1/2 days of bone is one meal too many. I alternate... 2 days of bone in meats then one day of soup or muscle meats...then 2 days of bone followed by one day of soup or muscle meats. It sounds like you need to reduce the amount of bone meal or give a day without adding it at all, which it sounds like you are doing.
In looking over what you have above for your current proteins and what you ordered, you have a good variety of different proteins, but you are correct....you need more bone in meats. I alternate: chicken (the spines, ribs and wings mostly), quail, cornish hen, pork button bone, some duck (ribs and spine pieces). these are my staples. Between those, a few muscle meals and the organ meals, I get to the end of the week with no problem.
Can't wait to see new pictures and weights!

Of course, that's what I'm here for. Silly. Remember the guidelines (I'll repost them below), and then you need to make a basic week menu off of that, and we will make adjustments and fine tune it from there. Remember also that this is not a set in stone thing, the menu is a guideline. So for one week (14 meals) they need to have: 10% heart (1.5 meals) 10% organ, half liver and half other organs (1.5 meals) 7-9 meals containing edible bone the rest is muscle meat, they need a minimum of 3 proteins (i.e. pork, beef, chicken) Your menu should be formatted something like this: Sunday am: pm: Monday am: pm: Tuesday am: pm: Wednesday am: pm: Thursday am: pm: Friday am: pm: Saturday am: pm: For each am/pm meal just list what you are feeding, you don't necessarily need to list amounts unless that is helpful for you. i.e. Sunday am: beef heart pm: 1/2 pork liver, 1/2 beef kidney and lung mix Monday: am: 1/2 chicken heart, 1/2 chicken liver (see now at this point I have 3 meals, 1.5 each of heart and organ) pm: chicken wings Tuesday: am: pork chops (boneless) pm: rabbit chunks (bone-in) .... etc etc. Don't stress out too much about your first menu, like I said we will make adjustments to it if/as needed. How are they doing on bones? How big of bone chunks are they up to? Also just a note on the ground whole rabbit - that it great, but I have heard from some people that the fur in it is a bit much and it needs to be cut with another meat. So you might want to give a meal that is half ground liver half pork chunks or something like that.

hy everyone, things are ok but dax is MIA I left food outside and inside by the closet he sneaks into, I haven't heard any rustling in there im praying he didn't get out hes so clever and sneaky though, ugh. There eating beef now, they wont touch ground (I don't blame them) but the stew beef chunks cut up into slivers are working, ive been making like a chunk soup with different meats snuck into the chicken im sorry I couldn't get weights and pics up ive just been running ragged the past few days and now dax is missing im a bit overwhelmed. The chicken bones are going well, the eat the entire neck and tug o war with them which is adorable haha, the smashed legs they eat a majority, but I find little shards here and there around the floor of there den. Im ordering from hare today on Thursday, ill check in see if I can add some quail and I can pick up game hen from shaws. I haven't seen any pork button or duck bones though, where do you find yours? Thank you katt for the menu outline ill use that in between classes tomorrow to make a rough draft and upload that with a few pics and weights, im really sorry ive been slacking im not used to the hectiness of balancing school work and the boys. Getting there though. Ill be back on tomorrow, thank you guys for helping. If I find dax between now and then I will let you know, fingers crossed hes just snoozing in the closet..

Pork button bone I get at the asian market. That is a great place to find those hard to find or strange meats.
I'm so sorry about Dax! Gosh I hope you get him back in your arms soon!
It sounds like they are taking to beef just fine, but better to stay at slivers for at least a few days and let them get used to the flavor. You will find bone shards around...they should be eating the majority of bone in things but sometimes it just works out that way. Mine do it all the time...They get all the meat off that they want and chew the bone for a while...then get tired of it.
I look forward to seeing your menu!
