The other night I noticed one of my girls Anks had a hard mass in her belly, with all the poor fuzzies crossing the bridge here lately I started to get really worried. I had an appointment the next day for a recheck on a couple of my ferrets who've had some stool issues and I arranged to take Anks in. The vet told me her coat is pretty thin, she's pretty underweight and her spleen is pretty big. He told me that its not uncommon to have an enlarged spleen and said theres not much I can do about it but keep an eye on her. All lympnodes were fine and he didnt notice anything else wrong with her.
Is there anything I can do for it? I remember reading on here about some kind of supplement that helps.. he also wants to have her gain weight, easier said than done.. she eats when she wants, I've tried putting some heavy cream in the soupies but that doesnt seem to be doing the trick. She's weighing in at about 750grams or 1.6lbs, she use to be pretty chubby as a baby but she's lost quite a bit. She plays fine, eats drinks..she's a 1y 3mon old. I don't know what to do for her =/

From what I understand, the spleen can be enlarged for no reason at all.
It is spring, and I'm assuming this is her first major shed? That could be why her coat is thin. I would just add extra fat to her meals. Chicken skin, pork fat, beef fat, etc. I also find it easy to put weight on a ferret when they eat soup. They seem to eat so much more when it's a smooth puree than chunks.
If she is eating/drinking/pooping/peeing/playing fun, I wouldn't worry about the spleen. It could be a mild infection, or it could be nothing.

did he run blood tests? try giving her colloidal silver. buy a good one though. a company called natural patch makes colloidal silver that is pretty good. (silver wings) the suggested dose for ferrets is 1/2 dropper full to 1 full dropper full per day. naturalpathsilverwings.com/colloidal_silver.html

She never got a winter coat. Vaeda is the same age that she is, I bought them together and vaeda was really chunky and she had a super fluffy winter coat, but Anks stayed thin and didnt get a winter coat.
I'll try to add more fat, she's pretty picky though and seems to eat around the fat in the soupies =/
He didn't run any blood tests yet, but she's got an appointment to go back in two weeks to be rechecked. I'll take a look at the colloidal silver.

One of the things you should remember about the CS is that it has similar properties to antibiotics (I've had only patchy success with this). I usually run it for 2 weeks on and then leave for a week and then another 2 weeks if it's necessary. This was instructions that I got for it from 2 holistic practitioners who were treating Mischief for his ulcers and IBD. ciao

Hi try to up her food intake if she likes soup give her two or three top ups during the day and mix in a little powdered kitten replacer milk or give her a saucer of goats milk first thing on a morning also include a little natural yoghurt in her diet ( good bacteria for her stomach and intestines ) often if you give little and often food wise you manage to put on more weight than givng larger portions al in one sitting ( a ferret usually eats its fill in five - 10 mins ) by spacing out meals in this way she will eat sleep eat sleep eat sleep but wont completely burn off all she is eating and will slowly gain weight hope this helps take care bye for now crazy lady
