Well I finally found some pumpkin at Publix, I overlooked it bc it had a pic of pumpkin pie on the can so I assumed it was mix and did not read 100% pumpkin. Well, the ferrets will NOT eat the pumpkin plain, they act like I am poisoning them!! But I did manage to mix some in their soup. Well some of you read about my MegaWeasel's potty issues, whenever he pooped only a little would come out and his bum hole would protrude a little after going to the bathroom. Anyway, a few hours after eating the pumpkin chicken soup he blasted a dookie. Lol, I mean I know it is disgusting, but I was there to witness it and it was hilarious bc it looked like it caught him totally off guard and he wasn't expecting it lol. Anyway, hopefully this will help out. How often should he get some? Once a week?

During the fuzzy shed time my guys get a bit every day, unless I'm feeding whole prey, even then....especially during the shed. Once the full coat has come in and the brush is basically coming out clean then they get it every couple of days. I always put it in the ground mix (cat's food) so some of them are acutally stealing it daily ciao

Like a a teaspoon added to the food daily? Or each ferret individually? I don't want to do too much.

About a half a tsp per ferret daily

My kids love it straight up, with a bit of water and oil.
They also get it in ground meats, soups, and I cover their meat chunks with a light layer.

My sadie gets a whole tbsp a day. She has a bit of IB and has runny poops with out it. Here's is mixed in her food (still on mush refuses chunks) and eats that amount throughout the day. It took a while playing with the amount to find what was enough to give her solid poops but not orange poops.

That is a lot of pumpkin a day. If she eats about 3 oz a day, that's close to 17% of her entire diet. I would be concerned that other areas are deficient

I know it seems like a lot, she gets 4 ozs a day. It's the only way to balance it out for her. Trust me we tried LOTS of other ways, and it always resulted in her refusing to eat and diarrhea.

i give 1/2 teaspoon at a serving - that's per ferret and, if i'm mixing in pumpkin, i don't do a communal dish/bowl - i do each ones serving separately or maybe 2 at a time...want to make sure they get their full 1/2 teaspoonful.
if i know, for sure, that they've ingested something, i'll give the 1/2 tsp of pumpkin twice a day for a few days/until i see whatever it is come out.

IBD kids seem to need more bulk. One does what one needs to stop the flow of nutrients out. You might try to up her bone intake, but I know from treating Ghenghis that can be a bit of a "crap shoot" and I found the pumpkin and more of it for him than the others. I don't think he was up to that much...it's been awhile. A tbsp is usually used to push things through but as I said there are no rules with IBD kids. They will let you know fast enough when the balance is out ciao

I hear ya Heather. It did take a while to find the right balance. She does get bone meal everyday, as she's my hold out for eating bone. I could be estimating high on the tbsp... it's one ice cube of pumpkin a day LOL
sorry to hijack maddy.... just mentioned it so show you that some guys can take more then others when it comes to pumpkin.

It's ok, I don't mind I wish MegaWeasel would eat it plain bc I really can't separate their food or they will run over to each others bowl and fight and steal bc each think someone else is getting something better than what they have lol. Megaweasel doesn't have diarrhea tho, its the other way around...only little poops come out and its like his bum hole pokes out after bc he's straining. I know there is no blockage tho...but the pumpkin has really helped so I'm sure he is thankful.

How do you feed it? Try making it warm, adding a bit of water, or pouring some oil over it.
