Just thought I would introduce us here on the guest board, while I'm waiting for someone on the staff to approve/activate my newly registered account.
My girlfriend and I have been interested in ferrets for a long time, and we finally adopted out first back in March.
Here name is Serenity!
This is a picture of her, on the night we brought her home; followed with a picture of her from just a couple weeks ago!

My girlfriend named her Serenity, because she plays an online game where she is a member of a group called Serenity and Scars; and our little Serenity sure likes to leave a few scars when she claws her way up to our shoulders when we pick her up! lol
She's been a real bundle of fun, but also a handful. She has large Superpet Cage with a nice banana hammock that she absolutely loves, and a few other things; and she also has our spare bathroom that we don't use, thats been converted into a playpen for her.
Here is a picture of her in the playpen!

That was just a few weeks ago, I heard her playing and tried to sneak in to take a picture, she caught me and immediately scrambled her way over the side to come greet me.
This particular bathroom is the smaller of the two, and thus we do not use it, but it is a part of the bedroom which has also been ferret proofed, so she has access to that entire room to run around and play in. In fact, the second picture up there is her standing on our bed after I had just made it, and boy was she mad at me for doing so, cause she just leaves to tunnel her way through the blanket and sheets when they're all bunched up.
They're not as exciting to her, when they're spread flat across a made bed!
For now, yes, we feed her dry kibble (Marshall brand) but we're interested in trying some frozen (thawed) chicken, preferably boneless; when we next have a chance to get some from the grocery store. We've tried letting her sample some of cooked meat from our own dinners, last night we tried to let her have a small piece of steak.... but she had no interest in it.
We're in an Apartment, which we're renting... so we're a little leery of trying the "live" prey route... we gotta, be careful with what we let loose in the apartment... our property manager still doesn't know about Serenity, as when I originally asked about Pet Fee's etc... I was told .. "any animal whose caged and under 5 lbs, has no pet fee's" ... but then later on when we were ready to adopt, I went back to get that in writing from them, and then they told me.. "Oh what are you getting? Oh a FERRET!? OH, geee, thats uh.. a $300 deposit!!" I about smacked myself in the face...
Though Serenity, is far from serene. She's barely 2 lbs and stays in her cage most of the time. So property manager hasn't been told about her yet, LOL ... and every time we need maintenance to some look at something in the apartment, we just leave Serenity in her cage, and roll her into another room, close the door, and she curls up in her favorite banana hammock and takes a nap! LOL
Anyway, we're about to adopt our second tonight! We have decided Serenity needs a playmate to keep her company, and so I came looking for some more active Ferret forums to keep us well advised through out the future!
With that in mind, as we're about to adopt our second... We're planning to take Serenity with us! Our local pet store, same one where we adopted her back in March, tells us that they have several 5 month olds available; and they have told us we can bring Serenity with us, and they'll let us use one of their dog training rooms in the back of the store, to introduce her to each of their kits, one at a time, and watch and see which ones get along with her, and which ones she accepts the most. She herself is about 8 - 9 months, we were told when we adopted her that they thought she was born sometime in September, while the current ones they have were all born in January... I find that rather interesting, as when we adopted Serenity in March, the rest of her 'cage mates' there in the store we were told were all 3 month olds born in January...
I'm pondering over whether any of them they have there now, might still be her original store 'cage mates'... hoping thats the case, she might remember and get along with them!
Presuming that is not the case... Considering she's grown accustomed to living alone with us over these past few months, then what are the chances of her not getting along, well, with a new furball coming to live with her?
Anyway, looking forward to sharing some of our future experiences with the rest of you!
