How do you know when to say goodbye to an old friend? When he has said goodbye to his last friend? When he became the last man standing? I knew that when Lady "B" left that I was going to accept the fact that Odin would probably soon follow her. He'd lived a long life, about 11yrs long. He stayed around though, after Lady "B" made her journey not for himself but for me. When he kissed his last little friend, Lady "B" goodbye....Odin started to fade away (yes, disease took him but loneliness was his true end). He grieved for her and he did appear to recover, but appearances are deceiving. He only made the motions, his joy for trouble though there wasn't pulled off with his usual zeal. He had recovered from loosing his long time friends and fellow trouble makers Loki and Thor (his partners in crime since he was first rescued from the dumpsters at the Dairy Queen)...and Mad Max and Ghenghis and Napoleon and Porthos and Attila and Mayhem and Captain Jack and Nicodemus, you probably even missed Panda, Aremis, Lady Sprite, Houdini, Shazam, Lady Zena ....the list was quite long....these were his closest friends. When Napoleon passed on, he stopped accepting new friends. In the end there was just him and Lady "B". He did his thing, she did hers. To watch them together, you wouldn't think them bonded but they cared deeply for each other. I can remember his first infatuation with her, so many years ago. He would sing her his hob song and she would run screaming from him down the hall. He had no problems with getting into trouble. Digging was a favourite pastime He loved to play and he would often grab himself in a hug and roll around on the floor singing to himself He would also stop in the tube, just at the top of the stairs, blocking the exit. It always seemed to be at the time when poor Thor would be coming up the tube...this would mean that Thor would loose his momentum and they you would hear him sliding all the way to the bottom of the stairs. Odin always seemed to know when Thor had hit the bottom because then he would yawn and move out of the tube. He'd then turn around and look at the tube as though to say "Where are you....you're always so slow" Odin my dearest old friend, rest easy now. I'm sure that you're playing with your old friends. You are now the whispering wind, you have no boundaries, no restrictions. No one will ever tell you get out of that plant pot. Your travelling candle is lit but you have no need of its light. You are greeted by all your friends and together you're going to catch a shooting star and with a blinding flash of light make your grand entry. May you always find a gentle jill for a pillow and Thor for a good wrestle. Gentle journey old friend, I miss you so very much. Ciao Heather

What a lovely eulogy. I have to say I laughed at the photo of him hugging himself, and at the tube story, and at the muddy paws! Seems like he had a wonderful, friend filled, life.

He had a wonderful life, Tundra. He had a love for life that is not like any I've ever had. He came to me as a hob, in full season, he moved into my business and befriended everyone. I now know that this was a very unusual thing to happen. I had avoided up until that time bringing in albinos, there was something creepy about their stare. He changed my mind so totally. He taught me that his beauty was his loyalty and love. It was only the last few months that he didn't enjoy his life and that was my fault and cowardice. I couldn't bear to let him go and like the true friend he was he stayed. I should have let him follow Lady "B", like he wanted. I have this photo, it's one of series. I laughed so hard while I was taking them. Here was Odin, in all his hobbish glory trying to make himself comfortable in a Kleenex box. He tried many positions, some with legs hanging out, head out, tail out this was one of the best ones he was capable of. ciao

I swear- ferrets are the only animals that can make me laugh while I have tears in my eyes. He had a wonderful, happy life. And now he's with his friends causing havoc at the bridge. I have to wonder if Lady B is screaming at him again? DIP Odin. You did good.
