Diagnosis was just a sprain with some bruising and abrasion. When she fell off the vet table on Saturday she hit the garbage can before landing on the floor so we think she whacked the can with this foot. Swelling is way down now (about 25% larger than the other) and she only showed some mild signs of discomfort (wriggling, general unhappiness about having the foot manipulated) while her foot was examined but no major expressions of pain (vocalization, defecating, no squinted eyes, etc). She has no limp, it can fully support her weight (even while standing) and it hasn't slowed her down any. I think we are in the clear!

Glad it was only a sprain and she seems to be recovering well.
Ferrets are tricky beasties, when the vet examined Sumo he didn't object or seem in pain at all, which is why we thought the nerve was probably damaged as well but after amputation the vet disected the leg and the nerve was apparently fine. Obviously Sumo is just very patient and sweet about being poked and prodded. Some ferrets I think know you are trying to help so just let you do it.

So...I've got a bit of a mystery here. When I got home today the swelling on Wilma's right hind foot has completely gone away. Strangely though, her hind left foot is now swollen and red. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this could be? She has been caged all day and nothing looks out of place in the cage. Nothing new has been added either. My Vet and I are both at a bit of a loss as to what is going on.

Could she possibly have caught it in the cage and it's simply coincidence?

I know. It's weird. But off hand it was the only thing I could think of.

Yeah it's really strange. Basically the top of the foot / toes and somewhat up the lower part of the leg looks red and inflamed with some swelling. Toes look bigger but the bottom of the feet / pads look fine. The skin on the top of the foot & toes feels a little rough like an abrasion of some kind. The swelling and redness are totally gone now on the right foot but the left one is still red and swollen (though the swelling has gone down a bit).
A possible theory: Could she have hurt her feet a bit in the fall and could the swelling / redness be cause by over grooming her feet? I know when I originally picked her up and noticed this on Sunday night on the right foot, she was licking it while lying in the hammock.

Ok, now I'm freaked out. I went to give her some scratches and brush out her coat and her entire neck and upper back is now covered in what I think are small tumours!! three or more behind her right ear and at least a dozen more down her upper back. The largest one on her back I can see pretty well when I part the fur (it's hard with just one person and uncooperative ferret). I guess this explains why she was so itchy but I have no idea how I missed these. How fast do these grow (I'm assuming they are mast cell tumours)? Are there other types of small tumours they can get like this? They feel small, hard and crusty.
