NOW I'm getting somewhere
I started making the raw soupie recipe a little over a week ago, and it's been a HIT. I was surprised! Reks (my pickiest) took to it right away, and Sari and Bantha only needed some coaxing with a spoon! Of course Pan took to it immediately...my little piggie
I have made three different batches. The first had quite a bit of water added to it, the second had a little less, and the third was pretty chunky (chunkier than I would have liked yet)...I'll get to that in a minute
The first two batches, I used chicken thighs with the skin (they LOVED the skin so much, that they would actually chew on the pieces at the bottom of the soupie ). I accidentally bought bone-in chicken thighs, so I had to cut it off of the bone first, then cut 1 inch pieces so I didn't overload the new blender that I bought. It worked pretty well I must say! ;D
Anyways...so the third batch...I got too ballsy I decided it would be easier to buy boneless chicken thighs. I bought two packages of almost 3lbs chicken thighs a piece (total of 6lbs chicken thighs). Now, I couldn't find any that weren't skinless also, but it wasn't a big deal since there was still fat on the chicken. So, I dumped a whole package into the blender (with the other ingredients). It was working just fine at first, but then it started to act funny...and then I smelled something burning I stopped it, pulled up the pitcher, and it was smoking! Luckily, the food was okay, but it was extremely chunky...not soupie AT ALL. It looked more like meat looks right after putting it through a grinder After trying it one more time with less in it (I just poured some out on a plate), it still wasn't working too well So, I portioned it all out into ziplock baggies, then cleaned out the blender to find that the blades and router were caked in meat to the point that it couldn't turn! Never again...
I was worried that it was going to be too chunky for their liking, but they ended up taking to it no problem once coaxed! The first feeding, they just licked it a little, but by the second feeding, they ate happily from a spoon ;D
I think I'll feed the chunky stuff until it's out, then I'll try offering chunks!
