Guess what everyone! My fiance is a hero, he found a hen for me! Our local "everything" store is ordering a hen for us, I am so happy! They said normally Chabo are sold in male/female pairs, but their source has an odd hen, and the last one too! It's like destiny! I think they said she will be available on the 12th. I am so thankful, finding a chicken in Japan is a bit of a challenge...at least for us.
I won't be back from my trip quite yet, but i'll be back on the 17th to meet her and start the bonding process. I would much rather wait until I get back, but we didn't have much choice, it was a use it or lose it situation. But my fiance will take good care of her for me, he's a great animal Dad. I would dare say he surpasses me! lol
I am always blown away by the standards for pets here. In the USA, you pay money, you get the pet. End of story. Here, when we adopted Pika for example, she had papers and my fiance had to sign for her...a tiny finch! We know her hatch day and everything. And the store staff seem well educated about the pets and very professional, even at our local "everything" store. I have a feeling the hen adoption will go down the same way and she should be very healthy and well cared for, at least she had better! She's an expensive little bird, about $80.00! They said normally a Chabo pair is about $200.00!!! But im sure she will be worth every penny.
Oh, and we already had a name picked out. Her name will be Hoshi, it means "Star" in Japanese. I don't know much about her yet, just that she is black. But I am so exited!
When I get back from my trip and meet the little one, i'll be sure to post pictures and possibly video on this thread for you. But until the 17th you might not hear much from me, my trip starts tomorrow.
