Also, do you have other options for grocery stores at which to buy meat? If Walmart is your only option, that's fine, but a lot of their stuff is injected with a lot of antibiotics and what not. They just aren't known for the highest quality. I'm not being rude or anything so please don't take offense. If its what you can get, that's perfectly fine!!

Would it be okay if I gave him maybe 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin once a week for a few weeks to get him accustomed to the taste and then hold off on it until it's necessary? And Salmon oil I only give about twice a week if I remember it, or I might just mix a small amount into his organs for now on before freezing them so I don't have to remember when I fed it and if it's time to give him some.
Ill look into hare today's options later today while I'm waiting for the boys I watch to finish up their dentist appointments.
Yes,I would like to slowly start getting him into whole prey (I had bought frozen pinkies, not live yet), possibly a meal of it a week for now. I bought the pinkies mainly to test how he feels for them and make sure he likes them before I end up wasting a whole, larger prey.

Haha no offense taken! No, I have two other stores for options, but walmart is the only one with the weirder stuff. I get my heart, whole poultry, gizzards, muscle meat, etc from my other two options (local supermarts- Fred Meyer and winco). I usually find liver at those stores too, but when they're out of stock I'll go to walmart. I'm surprised at how difficult it is to find kidneys... I thought they would be a lot more common.

Well, I just took a look at Hare Today and I have to say, the quantity of options they have is so overwhelming! I don't even know where to start... I definitely wouldn't mind making an order though, I originally had thought their bulk was like 5-10 lb packages only. This is much pre convenient. I definitely want to get some rabbit of some sort, but I can't decide if I want just muscle chunks, or whole organs, or a whole animal mince... quail would be nice too for bones, or duck...do you know what meat sources are the easiest for ferrets to take to? And what have the most varied nutrients to Balance the diet I currently have? (primarily chicken, pork, beef) Im pretty excited about this now, especially since they have whole feeder mice too!

I order ground organs, whole ground animals, etc. they even have whole ground mice, which I recently tried as an alternative to the whole prey thing, since its pretty much the same thing.
I'm currently at a pharmacy waiting for 15ore prescriptions after my 3rd trip to the doctor. I'm going to ask one of the others toes/moderators to give you a hand, as I am still not feeling better and not able to give you the proper attention needed for the next few days. They will go more in depth you on your questions. I apologize for the inconvenience and hopefully will be back in a couple of days. If these meds don't I've improvement they will be hospitalizing me, so please bear with me!!

Okay, just did a quick re-read. With the pumpkin, I'd be trying to get 1/2 tsp into him daily. It's meant to replace the non digestibles he'd get with whole prey, such as fur. It really does help them. You can make a treat of it. I mix 1/2 tsp with a bit of fish oil, or extra virgin olive oil, and warm it slightly. All of mine love it this way So- where exactly is he at with chunk size of meats, as well as bone?

Awesome! I'll start giving him some pumpkin then I'm assuming if I feed him whole prey then I'll just leave out the pumpkin on those days? He is eating large chunks very well, about an inch or larger with no problem. Bone is good too, I smash it into three pieces and he eats all of it aside from a few slivers. He ate a whole white fuzzy mouse and some pinkies on Monday with no problems at all (and not a drop of leftovers! Lol) He has his first vet exam in about an hour, when I get back I'll post how it went

I'm assuming if I feed him whole prey then I'll just leave out the pumpkin on those days? Correct. And it sounds like he's taken to it really well! Time to start increasing the size of the pieces and chop/smash the bone less

The vet visit just ended and I am beyond happy to start, when I brought him in I let the receptionist hold him and she was amazed at his easy going temperament and how little he smelled! the vet himself and his tech were in love with his coloring, and the best part; the vet was completely accepting and knowledgeable about natural diets and even used to feed his dogs raw. I could not be happier, and because they gave me a free coupon for the exam, I was able to afford to get him microchipped and they took a stool sample. i am so glad I changed vets last minute last week. And the building is amazing... I'm raving like crazy, I know haha

Yep! In my invoice printout he included a recipe for "healthy powder" that I want to run through you and see if you think it's worth anything. 2 cups nutritional or brewer's yeast 1 cup lecithin granules 1/4 cup kelp powder 4 tablespoons group 1 bone meal powder 1,000 mg vitamin C (ground) or 1/4 teaspoon sodium ascorbate (optional) Feed one teaspoon per day for a ferret. I'm thinking this isn't really necessary for a raw diet since most of it is plant material so it wouldn't fully digest/absorb anyway, but I'm not sure so that's why I'm asking here
