We went through it with Lucrezia and vet found nothing. I recognized Emily's cough from that and tried the same remedy on her. It worked And you likely didn't see it because I only got it up this past April

I'm very grateful this was here!! I was about to post in a panic about the horrible hacking cough Ty has been having the past two days. It's so weird it's only when he's in his cage and its only in the evenings after he has been put in to sleep for the night. I am worried that he may have eaten something terrible but he really is supervised 100% while out of the cage unless he's in our bathroom but we scrubbed that place clean with Nature's Miracle and made sure there was nothing he could get his mouth on or around. So I've given him a dab of laxative before sleeps each night. We are in Wyoming which is DRY so I'll be purchasing a humidifier and hopefully that will help, is there anything else I can do?

I forgot about this and Sherry's video. Juliet will often cough/hack at night, while she is in bed. I have vaseline and Bachs RR, I can help her the next time that I hear the cough. She has panicked and I've heard what I thought was vomiting. So Thanks All.

The Bach's Rescue Remedy really does help if they start to panic. This stuff works FAST. Just a drop on the nose does it. Amriver- what worked with ours was to give a bit of oil, then a taste of lax, then a syringe of cold water. The oil soothes the immediate cough, the lax helps take the hair down the throat, and the cold water soothes an irritated throat. And the order, believe it or not, actually IS important. When I've switched it up over particularly bad coughs it hasn't worked nearly as well.

My Jean Pierrer had that nasty nasty cough a little while ago and it scared me half to death. Thanks for posting this. What brand/type of oil do you use and (this may be a silly question) how do you feed it them?

I use salmon oil as a rule. And it's done with a syringe.

I use salmon oil as a rule. And it's done with a syringe. Prefect, thank you. And does the amount you give depend on how bad the cough is?

Glad I saw this. Charlie has been having a hacking cough lately. It makes me so worried. Every time I give him a little bit of Vaseline when I hear it and it seems to work until the next couple of days.
I never thought of giving a syringe of water after. I always tell Charlie to drink but he never does.

Whenever you syringe anything remember to point it crosswise in the mouth, not toward the back

Emily only does this either when in the cage(have to change bedding twice a week at this point), or when snuggled in with the others in a sleeping den. Basically she is very sensitive to fur when she winds up getting it in her throat. These episodes will be over when shedding season is past. She does this a few times a day right now. The main reason I posted it is so others can hear just how harsh this actually can sound. If I don't catch her early enough when she starts she begins to panic and will actually throw up. At that point I use rescue remedy to calm her a bit then follow through with the oil, etc. what rescue remedy is safe to use on them? My girl has been hacking and shedding a ton recently as well but nothing as harsh as your video!

While many suggest the pet version- I just use the regular. Yes, it uses alcohol as a preservative, the amount is minimal, and what they get even less so.
