yup, that explains it. I need to buy some toothpaste for the ferrets then as I just have the toothbrush. What do you use for toothpaste? Also do you share the toothbrush between the ferrets?

yup, that explains it. I need to buy some toothpaste for the ferrets then as I just have the toothbrush. What do you use for toothpaste? Also do you share the toothbrush between the ferrets? I believe there is a feline chicken flavored toothpaste that works well. I feed bones and whole prey though so I don't need to brush my ferrets' teeth. The meat, bones, and fur do it for me naturally. I would suggest making a post in Ferret Talk or Natural Care asking for recommendations. Sorry I can't be much help there. I would think any toothpaste that is ok for cats would work for ferrets, but obviously some will be better than others. So you want to continue with primarily the commercial raw then (for now at least?)? You can always add meat and bones and such later if you change your mind, and you can do whole prey not matter what. I don't want you to feel forced or rushed into the decision, they are just at a point of begin ready for the next step (most of them) but the next step will depend on where you want to go with their diet. If you are unsure, we can continue with the commercial raw and like I said go to bones and meat later if you decide that you want to do that. But if you already think/know you want to start getting them eating meat and bones then we can start that journey too. It is totally up to you!

Hey, sorry, still here!!! yup, I think I'll keep them on the mush for now, at least until I can get Mushu eating it as well. He's put on lot's of weight now from the kibble so hopefully I can get him to the soupies!

Hey, sorry, still here!!! yup, I think I'll keep them on the mush for now, at least until I can get Mushu eating it as well. He's put on lot's of weight now from the kibble so hopefully I can get him to the soupies! I would recommend, if the others are eating chunks to start upgrading them at least with the commercial raw. This will make things easier with them later and it is still easy to go back to mush when you need to if you want to even them out with Mushu and Farris as they start to catch back up. Start putting chunks of the NV into the mush if you are not already. If you have both available it will give Farris and Mushu a chance to eat the chunks Or the mush, if they so choose, but will also get the others a bit more used to having chunks. How is Farris doing? Are you still putting soupies on Mushu's kibble as a "gravy?"

Sorry again, I just got a bug that was going around at work. everyone seems to be eating pretty well. I haven't been putting the gravy on Mushu's kibble the past couple days but I'll get back on that again. Oy, I gotta go lie down again! I'll update once I'm feeling better if that's okay!

Thanks, Katt! definitely feeling better now, thank God! Okay so the cats have been picky about the meat lately, no clue why. They're still eating, though, and look healthy. Farris has gotten too skinny (from chubbs to skinny, go figure!) so she's now up in the top cage with Mushu eating kibble until she gets her figure back. Mushu looks fantastic (especially with the suprelorin implant bringing all his coat back and putting more weight on him!!) but I'm still just doing the dribble on the kibble. Otherwise Myra, Mitch, and Percy all look great. bought some more raw but d*mn it's getting expensive now that they're all eating more. I'm going to have to start mixing in some supermarket meat soon I think.

Ok, so first thing to do is address the ones who are doing well. If yo are ready to add grocery store meat, let's start with chicken, it is usually the easiest. Get some skinless, boneless chicken breasts and see if they like chunks via stuff and scruff. If they will go for chunks, GREAT. If not, blend it up with a little water (make it nice and thick - as thick as they will tolerate it) and pour it over their NV chunks like a gravy just like we did with the NV. Let me know how that goes. As for Farris that is not good. Stinky brat! she know just how to get her kibbles back, doesn't she? No worries! ALL ferrets can be switched, some just take longer than others. We might want to try another method with them too. Do you have access to freeze dried raw? If not you can order online from Casey's hidden Pantry. It is much more similar in texture to kibble, but in flavor to raw. Some ferrets do better transitioning first to freeze dried, and then to real raw. That is another approach to keep in mind that might work better for Farris and Mushu. For now, start pouring the raw gravy over their kibble. Do it every day, every meal, no exceptions. Pour as much as they will let you without refusing to eat. You might want to start thin (by adding extra water), and we can make it thicker as we go. As soon as they eat it, then up the amount of gravy. Then again, and again. Until they are eating kibble "cereal." We will get there. If after a while they STILL will simply not accept the soup, we can try the freeze dried method. Let me know how it goes! I am glad that you are feeling better too!

Hey Katt. Update wise not great. Coco still screams for kibble, Farris and Mushu are finally putting weight on with the kibble though they won't eat it with soup mixed in. Oh, and now Mitch, who was always the giant boy, is losing too much weight. The only ones doing alright on the raw are Precious (who is doing great and loves it), Percy, and Myra. Weird thing is that since switching to raw Mitch and Myra bite me ALL THE TIME. Myra used to a bit but not so much, and Mitch never did until I switched him. Just kinda odd. Anyway, besides stool quality I'm not really seeing anything better than with kibble, so I think I'm going to do a mix of kibble and raw and just give them the option for now.

Okay. I am sorry that you feel that way, but you have to do what works for you. This thread will be moved to the vault.
