that is good! i figured you would have a much easier time than some folks since your ferrets are still kits. i would print out that menu above (the frankenprey menu that sherry drafted up) and stick it on your refrigerator. it is a very good method to follow to make sure it is balanced. have you been able to find any hearts? i saw some at walmart the other day believe it or not. chicken hearts. i was walking through the meat section and i saw livers and hearts.

I wish, at the walmarts here you can get livers and gizzard/heart packed together. I do have about 10-12 hearts left, so hopefully these will last until I can order from Hare Today and it arrives.
I will print out the menu and put it up on fridge and in ferret room (in case kids take it down to put up pictures or awards). Thanks

i like to feed only one protein each day. that way if something is causing an issue i can tell which meat it is. but i know alot of people will mix proteins. have you gotten them to try eating beef or venison? or veal. those are other proteins you can try on them. they can't handle beef bones though so just use that for muscle meat meals. i don't like ground beef though. don't trust ground beef from the grocery stores. i will buy actual steaks and mince it up myself. you can use rib eye or flank steak. skirt steak. if you have a petco near you , usually they sell frozen mice. not sure how you feel about feeding actual critters but it is another protein that you can add to their rotation.

I'm okay with it, but i would have to make sure my kids are not home. My girls are pretty sensitive to that stuff. But they are fine with live crickets and meal worms to our lizards. I think because they are not fuzzy. , that is why snakes are not allowed, my oldest (she's 12) saw a python kill and eat a rat one time and she went hysterical in the store. should I get pinkies to start? today they are getting: skittles and sweet tart- boneless pork aj- quail and some small slivers of pork

Pinkies are ok to start with for snacks/special treats but adult mice and rats are preferred. Pinkies do not have developed bones and will not supply the calcium that ferrets require.

You dont have to use mice or rats though. I am just giving you some ideas for different proteins. :-)

I will print out the menu and put it up on fridge and in ferret room (in case kids take it down to put up pictures or awards). Thanks Heather the admin here mentioned something about the yahoo groups or lists where you can possibly find raw co-ops in your town. maybe you can find raw hearts and different types of organs through a list like that. i am not on any yahoo groups as i find them to be very un-user friendly. each ferret should get about 2-3 ounces of raw hearts each week IMO. if not, then give 250 mg of taurine per ferret each day. some people give more than that (500 mg per ferret-- break up into two doses of 250 each morning and night). taurine is a water soluble amino acid so whatever they don't use is flushed out in their urine. you can't really over dose on it. best to give taurine from natural sources such as heart muscle. but if you can't find it definitely keep giving the taurine supps. what brand are you using for taurine? you mentioned you got it at the Vitamin Shoppe. I like to use the NOW brand. I get it on amazon.com really cheap. that brand does not use any weird ingredients. just pure taurine. it would probably be easier for you to just feed all of your ferrets the same meals every day. that way it is easier to keep track of their frankenprey menu. i can imagine that it is tough to feed different things to them each day. i noticed that you are feeding the new boy different meals than the others. any reason why you are doing that? does he not like the same types of proteins that you feed the others? when you get a chance, like next week or something, post a full week's menu so that I can see what they have been eating in a full week.

i would keep on top of Skittles because her weight is going down. make sure that she is eating. she is a kit and i would not expect her to lose weight during transition phase! if you see that someone is losing weight it means they are not eating enough or something else wrong. but in her case since you are changing her diet and bc she is so young (approx 14 weeks of age) i would think that it is bc she is not eating enough. on 3/26 skittles was 760 g. today she is 700 g. --make sure she is eating enough. i would say 1 to 1.5 ounces each meal at least. on 3/26 sweet tart was 922 g and today she is 1062. so she has gained some. on 3/26 AJ weighed 340 g and now he weighs 557 g. so he is good. obviously a baby still.

I asked the admins and the other mods here and they agree that since these are kits they should be gaining weight not losing. kits continue to grow and gain weight until they are 6-8 months old. and they are at their biggest/heaviest their first year. so please stay on top of Skittles. make sure she is eating adequate portions. give her fatty meats. duck and lamb if you can find those. feed the chicken with the skin on it. also you can give her a bit of goats milk every day. ferrets love goats milk.
