Lately my ferret has displayed some some symptoms of polydipsia and frequent urination. While i was searching about adrenal disease i read in a site that the suprelorin implant can make the prostate enlargement worse! This is the first time that i am reading something like this.!Is that true??Here's the link: www.exoticpetvet.com/breeds/birdsmashdiet1.htm Go to treatment options,it says somewhere about the suprelorin implant.

That's the first time I've read that anywhere, including the clinical trials.

I'll be honest I've never heard of it either. We used it on Azrael, his prostate was enlarged and it reacted in what I considered the normal method and shrank it down within 2 weeks ciao

This is weird! That's the first time that i am reading something like this...Is there a difference between the Suprelorin 4.7 implant and the Suprelorin F 4.7 implant?cause it seems like we are having only the suprelorin 4.7 implant in Greece.

We use the superlorin 4.7 here. I tried a search but could find no difference between the two....there must be something but I can't seem to locate it. I just pulled the paperwork for my guys implants and its the Superlorin 4.7. I have the paperwork that came with the implants. Superlorin is a synthetic GnRH analogue (deslorin), slow release subcutaneous implant. Superlorin F is the American implant. It is the exact same implant as the Superlorin. The reason for the F is Ferret. The implant has not got it's FDA rating and can only be used for the use in ferrets combating adrenal disease. It's legaleeze. To make it available in the US they had to specify it's use. F is for ferrets. If you order your DES implant from Australia it will be Superlorin. If you're in the US and get it from the US distributor it will be Superlorin F. It comes from the same place (it's manufactured in Australia) but they have to change the packaging or the wording on the package . Here's the site www.virbacferretsusa.com/about-suprelorinf-implant#safetyciao

I have used deslo since about 2009. On an adrenal ferret and now for prevention. I have read tons abput it. Never heard of it enlarging prostates. To the contrary, it actually shrinks prostates in adrenal males!

Pinky has the deslorein implant (not sure which one) and his prostate flared up back on Dec 30. He was peeing blood, Took him to an pet ER. Horrible sight to see. His vet saw him new years eve morning. Gave him pain meds and anastrozole. He flared up a few times but for no longer than 30 mins. We finally got the flutamide and we haven't had a flare up. We also do the implant every 6 months now, It was every 9 months before. You can only imagine how my wallet feels. Lol.

Des, though not cheap is cheaper than doing the lupron. I've presently got 3 ferrets who are on DES implants. The cost in Lupron would be shocking as a Lupron shot costs me the same as a DES implant and the Lupron is not near as effective ciao
