Welcome on board Please feel free to prowl, there are a number of times the topic of breeders has come up, so feel free to check out those threads. I would also get in touch with those that have suggested you pm them to find out specific backgrounds of local breeders. Have fun, participate in discussions. I hope we will be seeing your around ciao

Hi The colour you are looking for is polecat ( dark sable ) the mask is white in winter dark with hood in summer if it is a true polecat (if it retains the hood all year round and shows no strong visible mask there is a possibility there is black self in the line ) as heather and others have stated lighting plays a big part in adrenal a ferrets body is turned on and off by light ( adrenal glands ) too much a hob or jill comes into season ( even one hour per night extra light can bring them into season early ) not enough light they suffer from other various illnesses ( there bodies cannot process vits correctly for example ) for many many years over here in england ferrets were kept out doors and used as working animals ( mine still are ) today they have become popular as pets and some are kept indoors vets are now beginning to see signs of adrenal disease in some indoor pet ferrets as for whole males rolling in urine that is an odd -occurrence but they do become sticky with an over production of hormones to there coat making them smell strongly ( vas hobs are simply whole males firing blanks lol ) you may also find males take a liking to there human is left whole and will slime on a female human lol ( rub there bits and smell on feet and arms lol ) please just remember not having a ferret fixed or having a des implant is no guarantee it wont get adrenal ( it has been known for whole female ferrets who have had jill jabs BUT they are kept indoors in artificial light to develop adrenal ) des is often used to help ferrets who are diagnosed with adrenal so if a implant is put in your ferret could develop adrenal and the des masks the symptoms for a while if you can find a vet who is good with cats then doing a vas on a ferret is easy lol ( same place thing on ferret as with cats lol ) but just remember a vas hob needs 8-12 weeks before meeting with jill or you could end up with a surprise litter and even after 12 weeks only use him once then wait 42 days to make sure he is firing blanks lol take care bye for now Bev

Thank you for the response and warm welcome. I will be keeping my ferret in his own room with black out curtains and a covered ferret nation 142 as well as many full darkness hidey-holes/tents/sleepers available. I will open the curtains for sunlight when I am playing with him, but otherwise he will be in relative darkness and will have the option if light peaks through the sides of the curtain when I'm not paying attention. I just mentioned the study because I was curious about it and figured that you guys would know more since you've been actively digesting this information while I have not been!

Nancy Park (Ferretown) is a very nice person and her ferrets are beautiful. The famous "Finn McCool" on Facebook is from Ferretown. Nancy Park is "nanjferret" here on the forum. She also uses deslorelin for chemical neutering so she can tell you a lot about that
Also contact Joan Clague of Tawelfan ferrets. She only breeds sables. Jbclague@yahoo.com
Linda Gurule of MiCorazon Ferrets has fully pigmented sables too. The jill "Tina" that she got from Tawelfan is beautiful and she is breeding her this year. Linda Gurule is "Linsu" here on the forum.
Ann Barzda of Hillcrest Ferrets in new jersey also breeds fully pigmented sables. She owns the famous Sarkany. He is a gorgeous ferret. Hungarian bloodlines.

Joan's ferrets are awesome. Look in the breeders board here. She posted a few threads with pics of past litters. I do not know anything about SHD
